This year I’ve enjoyed reading books that take place on the North Carolina coast, especially the Outer Banks. I really liked the portrayal of the beach town that Jenny Hale gives the reader. Living in a coastal city myself, I’m familiar with the humidity and the ocean breeze, but I’ve never been to NC. Her descriptions of the warm sand and the salty air were beautiful. I would love to some day vacation in a cute cottage on the NC beach.
The romance between Callie & Luke was sweet and tender. I’ve read some great contemporary romance books lately, so this one didn’t completely live up to my expectations. After finishing the book, I discovered that 2 of Jenny Hale’s books have been turned in to Hallmark Christmas movies and that explains so much. I love Hallmark movies for their simple sweet stories, but they’re not life changing, have to tell everyone about it type stories. And that’s how I feel about this book. Although there was some tension, it was resolved rather easily and everything seemed a little too good to be true. Again, I think my recent reads have influenced my thoughts on this one. The ending seemed rushed and tied up unrealistically easily. What I did enjoy about this book is that it wasn’t just a romance, but also a story about friendship and family. If you want a sweet and light romance that makes you smile, this is a nice story.

Review:
I felt like I was at a cottage on the beach as I was reading this book. I could feel the sand on my feet and hear the waves roll in. This was such a tender love story that it just pulled me in right away. I admit that I did not want to like Luke Sullivan at first and I was sure that he was going to be bad news for Callie but Luke did win me over. The banter between these two was funny and had me laugh at times. Callie was not looking for romance and made that more than clear to Luke but he did not take no for an answer, not in a bad way mind you, Luke just persevered through all of Callie's protests. I liked Callie, she was happy in her own skin and had accepted herself for who she is. Callie's main goal was to fix up the beach house and set up the Bed and Breakfast with her best friend Olivia. I admired Callie for not getting too side tracked from this goal. The heat between Luke and Callie was slow burning but steady, I could just feel the passion that they had for each other but Callie was trying to put on the back burner. Luke's mother was an interesting character and the author weaves her into this book in a very interesting way. Then there is the mystery of a diary that Callie finds and cannot resist reading. The diary tells of a love lost and Callie decides to try and find the brother of the woman who wrote this diary. There is much more to this diary and the story in it but I do not want to spoil the mystery for anyone. Suffice it to say the author adds a nice little twist to this beach romance and this adds depth to the story that worked well for me.
Final Thoughts:
What a touching love story , the main one between Luke and Callie and a decades old one that brought a few tears to my eyes. I am hoping to read more from a few of these characters mainly Olivia , Aiden and Luke's sister. I would love to hear each of these sub-characters stories and revisit this charming town on the beach. This review was originally posted on Cindy's Book Binge

I couldn’t put this down once I really got started! I don’t know why I kept sleeping on Jenny Hale’s summertime books when I love her holiday stories so much. She paints a great picture for each season and setting, which is why she excels at these season-specific books. I enjoyed the characters and the town of Waves, plus the slightly serious plot points toward the end. It wasn’t a full-on fluffy summer book, but was still incredibly light and a perfect beach read. I look forward to catching up on some of the books in her summer backlist and now having two Hale books to read each year!
A great read while on vacation in the outer banks. Pretty light and breezy beach romance book.
This is a sweet summer beach read sure to make you long for a visit in the Outer Banks, North Carolina. Callie Weaver has just made a lifelong dream come true when she and childhood best friend Olivia purchase the old home they've admired and start to renovate as an inn. Life becomes complicated when she meets local real estate heir and playboy Luke Sullivan. Despite Callie's hesitation Luke shows her judgement of him may not be accurate. This is the first book I have read by Jenny and wont be my last. I really enjoyed this book and it was the perfect summery beach read book. I loved the story and how well it was written. It flowed so smoothly and wanted me to keep reading. I love a cute summer love story.
This story is about two friends Callie and Olivia who want to restore a bed and breakfast and open it back up to the public in North Carolina. Of course Callie wasnt expecting to find love either on this adventure. She meets a man named Luke Sullivan one day when she heads into town and is instantly drawn to him. But is he who he seems? Luke is a local hotshot from his family's real estate empire and the papers name him as the playboy. But is he really? The more time Callie spends with him the more she realizes thats not true. Their relationship continues to grow. But of course everything cant be perfect right? Olivia and Callie come across a diary from the bed and breakfast with a past full of secrets. Should they really keep reading it when its not theirs? Callie discovers some deep secrets of the past and a very big mystery that she is determined to find out.
Will this diary ruin everything or bring her and Luke closer together?
Definitely loved this book and I am looking forward to reading more by Jenny!

This is a lovely summery read that has a great setting and some great characters. It is such a light hearted and easy read that it is just perfect for reading on a beach!
Jenny Hale has very quickly become one of my favourite authors and whenever she has a new release all other books get pushed aside until I have read hers, she just gets romance right!
In this book we meet Callie and Olivia who buy a house together that they had always admired, Callie meets Luke and they embark on a romantic relationship together. As Callie gets to know Luke she realises that he is very different to the person she believed him to be. I so would love to read more from these characters as they were so well written.

I finished this book out of spite so I could accurately roast it. It reads like the worst hallmark movie you’ve ever watched. There’s almost no character development, the characters aren’t relatable, the dialogue is stilted and unnatural. The plot is practically non existent.
