This is my least favorite of the Cross books I've read. This story seemed to be how many times can Alex Cross be about to die and then survive? There was very little actual detective work going on as far as plot development. I felt like this one just moved from one peril to the next and then it was wrapped up with a neat bow at the end.
Book #80 read in 2013
While I love Alex Cross and James Patterson, I hated the setting and brutality of this book.

At this point, these books are pretty familiar. There aren't too many surprises. What I liked about this book was that it took place in Africa and that was interesting-it brought up a lot of the conflicts going on today, but in a "James Patterson" kind of way.
This was a particularly good book in the Alex Cross series. This one included some of the "ripped from the headlines" type drama of youth kill squads in Africa and that part was really interesting to me, the lawless Nigerian plot was non stop action and interesting. The rest of the book was a bit unrealistic that a Washington DC detective would get wrapped up in that plot but overall, suspend belief and enjoy the ride.
As always, I cannot put this James Patterson book down. This book keeps you wondering what is going on because Alex Cross doesn't understand what is going on. The ending made me exclaim out loud. It is amazing how James Patterson can leave you salivating for the next book with only one paragraph that only has a few sentences in it.

Best book in the Alex Cross-series that I've read so far. Exciting until the end, with a few twists in the plot, although not completely surprising
I felt like I was reading blank pages. I don't know how else to explain it, it just felt boring to me.
