I am a big fan of Patterson and especially the Alex Cross series. Cross Country just didn't do anything for me. As with all Patterson books, it was a quick read however I just was never able to become connected to this story line.

I liked this, but it was difficult to read at times. The goriness of the murders and the social crisis in Africa. I've always loved reading his stuff, but as I get older, not so much. They are quick reads, but somehow the endings are not as good as the rest of the book, if that makes sense.

This is a great adventure but hard to suspend disbelief. It's great Patterson is highlighting some of the horrors in parts of Africa but a cop stumbling in this kind of conspiracy and surviving over and over again is not believable.

This one was just ok. Africa. Corrupt CIA (again)
Family missing (again)
Kyle Craig still out and about.

A little hard to get into - first couple chapters are pretty slow, but overall a good read.

I was really disappointed in this novel. Usually JP has my full attention, but this time I was almost bored.

As good as ever! Alex Cross must travel out of the country for this murder case!
Alex is taken to Africa, where he must hunt down the mysterious and murderous man named the Tiger.
However, when the government and police are just as corrupt as the criminals, where can Alex turn for the support he needs to capture the criminal?

And who is the man they call Tiger?

One of the better Alex Cross books. A different story due to a different setting, largely taking place in Africa.

I will now read a book that has been a long time coming. @Hannah you should know which book that is!

Time to finish 2024 strong.

Cross Country is James Patterson’s latest Alex Cross book and let me tell you, it’s a knockout! Two families have been brutally murdered in Washington, D.C. and one of the victims is Alex’s old college sweetheart, so he becomes obsessed with the case. When the Nigerian ambassador’s son is murdered in a similar manner, Alex tries to contact the ambassador to warn him. He finds out that the ambassador and his wife were murdered in Africa at the same time as their son. Alex decides that he must head to Africa to try to capture the killer.

Africa turns out to be horrific for Alex. He is brutalized by the police and witnesses unspeakable cruelties in Nigeria, Sudan and Sierra Leone. Adanne, a journalist for The Guardian, befriends Alex and together they try to hunt down “the Tiger” the conscious-less killer responsible for so much carnage.

Cross Country is different from other Alex Cross novels in that Alex’s family and partners are such minor characters and the reader never knows the killer’s thoughts. Because of that, though, this book easily stands alone. This is an action packed thriller, and I found it hard to put down. As a warning to the squeamish, it does contain a lot of graphic violence. The horrors in Africa were heartbreaking and difficult to read about, but I know many of the them are true. I just wish Patterson had included a note documenting his research so the reader would know more about the atrocities in Africa.

Not my favorite Alex Cross novel.
