Embarrassed to say this is my first by Ta-Nehisi. He has been on my very long TBR. I think he will be moved up so I can read his backlog. These essays are his educated opinions, by that I mean he uses real facts and then makes his own conclusion. You may not agree and you may be on the "other" side of his argument but that does not make this any less important. If you are unable to hear what someone else says, in opposition to your own beliefs, and so therefore you just thrown a fit and walk away, you are wrong. You should be able to articulate your position with facts, just as this author has done if you are so right about your position. If you can do that, then a real discussion can be had and then perhaps we can start actually solving problems in this country. Had to get that off my chest because I was reading the 1 star reviews and it was mostly people upset with his position and argument around Jewish and Palestinian topics. I dislike when people do that. You can disagree, but to rate the book 1 is childish. Anyway, I loved it and was truly thought provoking. So much I did not know about Palestine and just the parallels to America and what we have and are doing presently that is so similar. Cannot wait to read another.

essential reading. written with extreme care.
The last forty pages.... Coates was on his fucking GAME. And how thankful I am that I was able to read such a clear-headed account of life in Palestine, of the Palestinian reality. Sometimes I felt that the language was leaning a bit too academic for what this book is meant to do, but I most of all feel gratefulness that I'd heard of this book, that I saw it on a library shelf, then took it home and read it.
