this would be so good if the first part was like 80% shorter and we didn’t get so much meg content. otherwise, perfect book. i cried multiple times.

I’m actually a moron. I think I read the children’s version, I should’ve known. It does say “In Easy-to-Read Type”. My stupidity is actually becoming a burden on me

This book was a rather cozy read but I wasn’t a fan of it mostly because of the episodic way the overarching story is told and the large gaps in between the stories. I also didn’t like the ending for Jo’s story ending up with the German guy and opening a boys home. I think it would’ve been more consistent for her to stay single.

i didn’t expect to like, let alone love, this book. the beginning felt very preachy and i didn’t love the characters enough to think about the messages deeply — i think i instinctively pushed back against what i assumed would be “outdated” conceptions about women’s role in society + the home (and there ARE plenty of outdated ideas). but as i got further, i began to appreciate that it was unwavering in the strength and personalities of its characters, even though they exist in a Society that i couldn’t dream to live in. idk, its just cool how much still resonates even though how women exist today is unrecognizably different from the lives they led when this book was written.
