A Proposta

A lovely book! Even though it was too mushy at times I didn't mind it too much. The only problem I had with this book was the phrase "..you and that mouth.." which was definitely used one too many times.

3.5 Stars

For some reason this didn't pull me in as much The Proposition. I wanted to slap Emma more than once. I wanted to yell at Aidan more than once. More though, I wanted to slap Emma.

There was times when I laughed and cried, but more so I was just eh about the whole thing. Then there were a couple of times when I wanted to puke at the overly mushy stuff (one time in particular
Spoiler when Emma told Aidan she was pregnant and said "oh Aidan, you made me the happiest woman in the entire world by giving me a baby. Then you made my life complete by giving me your heart and love. I can't imagine anything more amazing than another child of yours" yeah, way too much!

I just want to say though that I LOVE Casey, Connor, and Patrick!

This was a very cute story. I am glad they got their HEA! I can't wait to read Pesh & Megan's story!

I'll be honest. The Proposition (and therefore, obviously, The Proposal) is a book I first read probably close to 10 years ago. I was in my early twenties and just fell in love with it for some reason. Because of this, it's a series I find myself circling around to every few years as a comfort read.

That being said, I've been trying to ease myself into audio books. I tried a book I'd never read before and it just didn't work so I decided to try listening to books I was familiar with to get a feel for them before moving on to new material. So, I just "reread" this by listening to the audio book. After rehashing the book, now into my thirties, I take some issues with it.

I still quite enjoyed the story. We're obviously picking up where we left off after the bomb at the end of The Proposition. Mistakes were made. In my review for The Proposition I note that I enjoy Aiden as a character and that while I used to like Emma as well, I found her more patronizing in this read through. The Proposal makes me change both those view points. I like Aiden less in this book. In the first book, he's a pretty chill guy but generally takes command and knows what he wants. Admittedly, he freaks out and loses sight of that at the end. We all read it, we know what happened. Then, he wants to win Emma back...and just sort of rolls over and waits. What happened to the guy that curated the entire plot of this book to get something he wanted (however selfish his intentions were) or the guy who hopped on a plane to be home for two days knowing he'd have to turn around and go back to where he came from for work just because he needed to see Emma? He makes it clear he wants her back but doesn't quite have the fire I would have expected.

As for Emma, I find her significantly more annoying in this book (not to mention hypocritical). She recognizes Aiden regrets his actions. Many people have told her as much and she's seen it for herself. I get he screwed up and she takes that indiscretion seriously but my LORD does she drag it out and, by doing so, basically goes down the same path Aiden did. It seemed out of character for her and it took WAY longer than it should have for her to realize she was doing to Aiden what he'd done to her.

For similar reasons on my review of The Proposition, I gave this a three mostly because of the bit of nostalgia I mention at the beginning of this review. I've long had a soft spot for these books and that made me more generous with my rating. I think if I'd read this for the first time now, I would probably have rated it a two to two point five.

Now, specifically speaking for the audio book aspect. I still feel like a male and female narration would have benefited the audio book. Justine O Keef was still just fine but I felt like the male voice was missing from the story. Similar to The Proposition, I took issue with a pronunciation that drove me batty (luckily it's only in the book once) but our girl Justine CANNOT pronounce the word boutonniere. I can't even try to phoneticize how she said it because it was just so WILDLY off base. I digress.

Also, my bigger beef with the narration was the accent for Pesh. I get it. The guy is of Indian descent. He was also born and raised in the US. I'm not saying that means there will be no accent simply based on his upbringing. But Justine leans SO HARD into the Indian accent for Pesh, it was cringe-worthy and embarrassing. Thank GOD Pesh doesn't have too much dialogue in this book or it would have been hard to listen to. I was nervous to start a listen of The Pairing knowing Justine was narrator of that as well. Luckily, so far, the accent is MUCH scaled back for Pesh, making it easier to listen to (until Dev makes his first appearance, then we're back to the yikes). I struggled with the narration more for this book mostly for this reason.

Second book bombed. I liked The Proposition better. Although I'm thrilled that Emma and Aidan had their happy ending, I thought there were just too many sappy dialogue and unnecessary sex scenes, and everyone is living in a very colorful world where nothing can go wrong.

eh... It was okay.

I found myself skimming through this book at some points. It was predictably redundant. Although, I'm glad I read it just to finish the story of Aiden and Emma, I just felt like if it ended when they got back together then I would've been fine; The characters would have been fine. After their reunion and subsequent marriage, the story was done... or at least for me should have been done.

So I'm giving The Proposal 2 stars. It was okay. \_(-_-)_/

This book just didn't do it for me. I LOVED The Proposition. Don't get me wrong, this is still a good book but it wasn't the same. I got really frustrated with the characters. They just didn't feel the same. I love Aiden, but...it kinda felt like he grew a vagina in this book.

So I read the reviews before listening to this one. I couldn't just stop at the first one because I had to see what Aidan was going to do to fix things. I wasn't disappointed in this one like many others were. I liked that Emma tried really hard to resist Aidan. She couldn't make it easy for him, could she? But then it felt like her resistance went on for too long. Aidan may not have said the words she wanted to hear, but he showed her how much he loved her on a daily basis. I was glad that Aidan hung in there, even after thinking Emma was going to go for Pesh. And I was kind of glad how things worked out with Pesh. I felt like the story was pretty much complete with this one, so I'm not sure I'll continue with #3. It's not available on audio anyway.

Ok. OKAY.

Everyone rushing to help Aidan after HE cheated? Absolutely not.
Everyone acting like Aidan is not a grown ass adult who created problems that he apparently can’t solve alone? Absolutely not.
Telling Emma that she needs to just get over the whole cheating thing cause ‘oh no poor bb Aidan is so sad and depressed and is drinking so much and blah blah blah only you can fix him’? KILL. ME. DEAD.

Now let’s skip.

The whole Pesh thing was so weird. Put aside the total lack of ethics (I mean… he took her number from Aidan’s dad¿?¿ it’s fucking weird) and then these pseudo non-date things. Then they basically make out on their last date but then decide ‘actually, yes but no’ and Emma immediately goes in and decides to *get down* with Aidan?? WHAT. IS. HAPPENING.

I was over this book when it got to Casey and Nate’s wedding. Which is a whole other situation. Were we supposed to care about these characters? Casey, Nate and Connor would just pop in and then disappear out of nowhere just to pop in again like 50+ pages later. Odd… but at least it was consistent with their appearances in the first book, I guess.

Now, the ‘Big Papa’ stuff. GAG.
It was fun as a teasing sort of nickname but then it became pretty constant and it was beyond cringey when Casey was consistently referring to him as Big Papa.

Anyway… after Emma sang at the wedding, I skimmed the remainder of the book. And that’s my review lol.
