In general I enjoyed the reading experience of this book but I had two hang ups: the pacing and the characterization of Jake as a victim of the Miller women. I had a slow start with the book but was eventually pulled in by the intrigue of the Florentine diamond and fully hooked once the family drama ratcheted up. Kristi, Jake’s girlfriend, was my favorite character and Jake my least. It frustrated me that over the course of the novel he received rewards his sisters did not. I found the Miller women much more interesting, and the novel would be four stars if it was sans Jake.

If you are into unlikable characters and family dysfunction, this is a book for you. I read it because I expected a great back story about the family history and tracking down the past of the diamond. That story is maybe a quarter of the book. The rest is family drama and domestic dysfunction. Not for me.

An amazing book! It kept me on the edge of my set, always wanting to read more. It was fascinating to learn some of the history in this fictional novel about family drama and secrets we keep.
