I had heard of this movie but didn’t know this was also a book. I found it fun and cute, and highly recommend the audiobook.

So glad to finally meet Willowdean and see what all the fuss has been about. Audiobook version, narrated by [a:Eileen Stevens|3119333|Eileen Stevens|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1393189780p2/3119333.jpg], is well-done.

Willowdean can be a hard narrator to root for at times- hypocritical, self centered, and much too hard on herself and those who love her. This can be said of most people, especially when you’re in high school. She shows growth and I think the author does a good job of showing that she’s capable and willing to grow. Having a protagonist whose internal fat phobia is on full blast does not mean advocating to keep your fat phobia, and I think with a good headspace and critical thinking, this can be an enjoyable story about someone learning to love herself and growing up

I enjoyed this book but not as much as I was hoping. I actually preferred the movie adaptation on Netflix as it was just more fun to watch. I love the idea of this story. I'm plus sized myself and I LOVE seeing a girl like me as a main character. I would have liked WillowDean's friends to be fleshed out more. I also just really loved Bo in the movie. He was fine in the book but he seemed more genuine (for the most part, there were parts in the book where I freaking loved him) in the movie. Plus, Luke Benward is fine to look at ANY DAY. I also loved loved loved Jennifer Aniston as her mom! Some people might disagree with me but she really did it for me. Some parts were changed for the movie, obviously, and I wasn't too mad about the changes. It would have been funny to see WillowDean at the disgusting chili restaurant but I'm not going to cry over it not being in the movie. Overall, this book was a decent, enjoyable ride but I just liked the movie a bit more.

2.5 stars! I think this is something I would have LOVED in middle/high school, with its representation of how it feels to be the “fat girl” and how those feelings affect personal relationships. However, I think this story was really lacking structure which ultimately led to me not caring about what happens in the end. There were so many different plot points going on at once that by the time I reached the end, none had felt very developed or resolved, and therefore not very purposeful at all to include in the story. Idk, still a fun read
