This was a fun witchy read that gave of The Craft vibes during the mother's POV because it was when she was younger in the 90's. The other POV is of Ivy during present day.
Really enjoyed most of the book, but the pacing felt a bit off and the ending felt rushed.

Now this is my kind of book! for people who love suburban witchcraft vibes and The Craft! We follow 2 characters Ivy in the modern day, and her mother in the 90’s. Admittingly, I enjoyed the mother POV more, but it was interesting to watch the story unfold through both timelines. I really liked Albert’s writing, her descriptions where everything!! I will have to read more from her!

FULL FIVE STARS!!! Our Crooked Hearts is a fantastic novel. Atmospheric, a bit scary, and so entertaining. I was hooked from the first page. I had never read a book by Melissa Albert before, but I cannot wait to read her backlist. I am so impressed by this story.

Thank you so much to Flatiron books for my advanced reader copy!
Before I begin the review I need put it out here that I did not enjoy the author's Hazel Wood series and reading this book made me realize how important it is to give second chances sometimes. The synopsis of Our Crooked Hearts led me to take the opportunity to read an early copy and I am so very glad I did. I absolutely enjoyed the book which literally starts with a smash, it is positively creepy and unique, there was a never a dull moment in the book as it held my attention steadily throughout to the end. It is written in a dual POV, a mother and a daughter which I thought is something we never see, I loved the dual POV although I am little biased to the mother's POV. I also have to add I enjoyed the writing style in this book, it is not poetic or flowery but has a moody tone to it that will immediately transport you to whatever scene you are in the book
Our Crooked Hearts is about treading dangerous lines between the worlds, desperate bargains with the unknown and basket full of very very bad decisions. Part of the story is set in the 90's Chicago city where we see Dana, the mom's POV and then we have Ivy's POV which is the current timeline, the back and forth narration and how they converge towards the end is done quite seamlessly. There are times where I was absolutely terrified because of the way the author described magic and the surroundings, the ambiance in this book definitely adds that extra oomph to the already eerie plot line. On top of it, the book also has elements like haunted libraries, dreamscape, liminal spaces, auras, dark magic and MIRRORS, I am telling these mirror scenes freaked me out along with the rabbits which are a constant in this book. Overall with short chapters and numerous revelations the book has been an amazing spooky read, it is a perfect witchy read to save for Fall or to curl up to on a hot summer afternoon!

Siempre le queda faltando algo al final
3.5 stars rounded up. This was a fun, atmospheric, creepy, witchy read. Ivy is riding home with her boyfriend, when something darts in front of the car. He swerves; and they go off the road. There are no damages to the car, and except for Ivy colliding with the dash, she is fine. They get out of the car to see what caused them to go off the road. They find a nude girl in the water. She seems unhurt, so Ivy gives her a shirt she’s wearing. Then, Ivy and her boyfriend drive home, where she dumps him. The story weaves back and forth in time between Ivy’s present day and Ivy’s mom, Dana’s, teenage years. Of course, some weird things start to occur in Ivy’s life. Ivy finds out that her mom is probably a witch, and Dana’s story tells the backstory of what she and her friends did. As the story moves along, you start to understand how what happened back then is affecting Ivy’s now. I found this story engaging from the first chapter. Also, I did go back and forth between reading and listening. I actually enjoyed reading this book more than the narration. Dana’s narration was very low and hard to hear at times, while Ivy’s character was practically shouting. If you get the choice, pick up the book. Overall, a fun read.
