The best witchy book I have read so far (I've only read two). It was a nice read. I liked the plot. Lots of angst. Billy being so understanding of Ivy's witch powers and her mother taking her memories seemed like a stretch, but 🤷♀️ the romance seemed rushed all together, actually. But I was in the story the whole time. Marion as the villain was so good and entertaining. Liked the mother/daughter struggles and how she doesn't automatically forgive her mother in the end, but is willing to in the near future. Her ego was kind of annoying, but she did the right thing so, hey, whatevs. I actually finished this a while ago but forgot to write my review before diving into other books, so that's why this is not structured well.

Coming down from 2 Melissa Alberts in a row, I feel like I'm just waking up from the fever dream that is her magical realism. Both books impressed me with their smooth writing and effortless blend of fantasy and suburbia.
Plot-wise, the tension definitely built through the first half of the book, and I was really excited for the climax, but then it just sort of...fizzled out? Didn't click? Maybe I just got out of the zone while I was reading, but I definitely felt like the resolution was less than it had been built up for.
My absolute favorite part was the mother-daughter relationship. My heart ached at how accurately Albert described the complicated mess of growing up and seeing your mom as the human she is, instead of the mother you expected her to be.
"On the other side of everything, we were not okay. But maybe someday we would be."
Graphic: Animal death
Moderate: Self harm
two generations in a witchy family, so the split timeline was a bit hard to track on audiobook.
SPOILERS
I loved the reveal that the mom had taken the daughter's memories of her ability to work the craft, and ended up removing her memories of her neighbor.
So much loss of trust here.
Interesting to see how they could ever repair that relationship damage.
