Disappointing is a good one word summary. The first 75% of the book was decent. While it doesn't compare to the Hannibal Lecter series, the story and characters were interesting enough to keep my attention and immerse me in the world a bit. Everything fizzled out at the end thought, not because it wasn't suspenseful, but because it felt heavily rushed. It's as if Harris got sick of writing the story and just said "Fuck it, this needs to be finished with."

I honestly don't get why the averaged out review score for this book is so low. It wasn't revolutionary by any means, but it has all the hallmarks of a Thomas Harris book nonetheless. Every drop of blood carries the essence of Hannibal. The protagonist is well-written. So is the villain. Him deserving everything that would come his way is the point. You're not supposed to like him. The misogyny and the predatory behaviour is the point. It's not bad writing. It's the plot. It's what the book's about. Bad guy is bad.

Don’t believe the haters – this book is not confusing in the slightest (gosh darn it – occasionally you might have to concentrate when you are reading!) nor is it boring nor indeed is it the worst book of 2019…

It is in reality, however, a novella in length bulked out with a lot of white paper. And it is very underdeveloped, trying to cover many subject areas and storylines but without giving any the attention they deserve. True, it is almost certainly the worst book Thomas Harris has written but none of that makes it a bad book. Try to get some perspective here!

If this was a new writer, nobody would get too excited and the book would probably get average reviews and sink without trace. As it is Thomas Harris’ latest and as he releases a book once a decade, it is a bit of a let-down but I’m not angry, I’m just disappointed.

IT’S FINE! But yeah, borrow it, don’t buy it.

Not his best work, but definitely a must read for everybody upset about the man/bear in woods question.

This was a good and interesting book and a good way to introduce yourself to this author and his writing

If you’re expecting this to be similar to other books by Thomas Harris, skip this one. Almost didn’t finish.
