A cute, endearing read which, for me, was a good balance of trans coming-of-age fantasy fulfillment (i.e., a largely positive vision of how things can go, when the stars align), and the harsh reality of coming of age as a transwoman.

For the fact that it leans more strongly towards the prior, I appreciate it. Not because to write a mostly heart-warming trans coming of age novel is inherently preferable, but because having read 30 or so trans novels and memoirs, a tale which is more sweet than bitter can be a nice change. We have plenty of harsh reality in the world, and in the world of trans writing, and this story's leaning towards the sweet and not just the cruelties of life is a pleasant departure, for me.

🧠 My thoughts
Reading this book felt like reading a fairy tale about trans folks which was definitely a nice breeze into the sad world that I have seen in other books with the same topic. It felt both relatable and not relatable at the same time which was a good thing because I learned some new things from this book. It was nice to hear some words from the author at the end of the audiobook. All in all, I was glad that I picked this book up, it was such a delightful read.

πŸ‘ What I like
  • Beautiful story
  • Nice rainbow representation

πŸ‘Ž What I don't like
  • Maybe it lacks a punch

I wanted this book for a long time and when I finally got it I put off reading it for so long. That was a mistake. This book is amazing. It really opened my eyes up. I recommend everyone reads this no matter whet your sexuality is. This is a great read. Definitely one of my favorites.

I found this book not only enjoyable but also informative. More importantly its why we should be kinder and more accepting of others. Our differences are what make us unique and interesting and no one should be hated for just wanting to be happy.

CW: Transphobia
This was such a heart wrenching novel. Amanda obviously had to deal with a lot of adversity and its devastating to read about her being beaten by local teenagers just because they didn't understand.

This book was my first ever LGBTQ+ πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ centered book !! Plus it’s contemporary... It’s fine the book is great for contemporary lovers but I still enjoyed even though I hate contemporary lol πŸ˜‚
This book talks mostly about a transgender originally named Andrew but after the change of gender he became Amanda ... She moves back with her father to get a new fresh start
