As an end to Bean's story, it is so evidently clear that OSC still has all the talent that so many of us know he has. I have no problem envisioning Bean speaking with his genius children and at last getting the resolution to his long life that he so richly deserves. Perhaps the striking thing is that he manages to tell the story in half as many pages as all the Shadow books but has driven home the points he wants faster than ever before. The dialogue is as vibrant as I expected and the banter just as real. Card still excels at putting the voice and character in each person in his books.
Perhaps most striking is his ability to express a character's vulnerability and help us see through their eyes the distance in emotion and relationship that can happen. And he expresses real joy through his excellent prose. This was a fitting end - except that I dearly hope it isn't.

The Shadow series are books that take place in the Enderverse but do not have Ender Wiggin in them. This book follows the giant, Bean, and 3 of his children who also are geniuses and suffer from giantism.
This is not my favorite in the series but more is revealed about the formics and the hive queens. Short easy book. Though the series is not holding the same standards as the original 4, i have to know what happens with in this universe. I cant stop reading it.

This was a decent book which did an excellent job of finishing the story line of Bean, the Giant. However, the plot was lacking. Namely, there wasn't much of a plot. The book is a story about 4 people (Bean and his 3 children) in a ship. Throughout the book, they encounter different creatures, challenges, and problems, but these all seem to just go away - leaving the reader to make up their own plot and guess to what could have been.
I give it 3 stars because it's nice to read another book about Bean. Card does an excellent job stating what is in each characters head, and has not forgotten what it's like to write about this abnormally intelligent character. But the plot is just lacking too much for me to give it any more.
