Life can be unfair at time. Just keep going and before you know it things start to get better. Loved Calliope
This is a sweet, important book. Calli has Tourette’s syndrome and has been told to keep it a secret. Hiding something you have no control over is hard no matter what, but Calli has the added problem of frequently moving and starting at new schools.
Whenever Calli’s mom breaks up with a boyfriend, she moves her and Calli to a new place. Then, finding a new boyfriend becomes her main focus, and Calli is left to fend for herself.
In the newest place that she finds herself, Calli meets Jinsong. Jinsong is immediately intrigued by Calli, but lets himself down when he is too embarrassed to be her friend at school.
We get to be there as Calli and Jinsong both try to become people that they are comfortable and proud to be, all while slipping joyfully into Ellie Terry’s verse-writing, which is just fabulous and delivers the feels.
This book helps to remove the stigma from TS, and reminds us that we are all human and struggling with all sorts of different things under the surface. Let’s be kind and enjoy each other just as we are.

I’m not one for poetry, but this middle grade was a good introduction. I don’t think I would’ve enjoyed it as much if I didn’t listen to the audio book. I just don’t like the spacing that comes with poetry. The story was engaging and the characters were diverse. I enjoyed it.
