This is a beautiful story that tackles the insecurities and difficulties of going middle school with differences than the “normal” kids. I love that it’s written in prose poetry!
I wish it had something else; it needs a bit more of that something to push it to a five star for me.

"I am Calliope June. I wish I could fly to the moon.
There'd be no one there to laugh or to stare and no one to call me a goon."
What an amazing, poetic & heartfelt story! This is a book you don't want to miss. Simple, beautiful, and heartfelt. You'll laugh, cheer, sigh, get angry, and maybe even cry. It was a quick middle grade read… the poetry is fantastic and also the kind of story worth reading no matter your age.
Calliope (Calli) is a young girl with Tourette's Syndrome.
Forget Me Not is told in short, simple prose from two points of view - Calli and her neighbor/friend Jinsong. Calli's story is absolutely captivating. Her mother jumps from relationship to relationship, always packing up & moving on with the ending of each one. Calli tries hard to hide her tics, to fit in but of course it's difficult for her. My heart broke for Calli so many times while reading this book. She is lonely, misunderstood, bullied and made to feel ashamed and embarrassed of herself. Yet, I was beyond touched by her strength, resilience and her innate goodness. Calli had a huge heart. She was sweet, funny and brilliant. The kind of girl anyone would be lucky to have as a friend. The author, Ellie Terry has Tourette syndrome & I was touched by her raw honesty & depiction of what’s it’s like to have it.

FORGET ME NOT is beautiful, inside and out, and like its characters - impossible to forget. The novel is singular in so many ways; for one thing it features a young girl with Tourettes syndrome, a topic not typically seen in children's lit. For another, this is a dual point-of-view novel and one of the POVs, the main character Calliope's, is told entirely in verse. But Ellie Terry makes it all work and gives us a gorgeous, memorable, lyrical story that is all about celebrating and accepting our differences and finding your place in the world. I love the verse chapters because they offer heartbreaking insights and clarity into Callie's world and her challenges. FORGET ME NOT is perfect from cover to cover.
