I listened to the audiobook at work because it was short and available. I didn’t have any expectations going into it but it was a very pleasant, sweet read.
I’ve said this before, but adults seriously need to revisit juvenile fiction sometimes. This story was obviously not some great discussion or discourse, but sometimes a nice, healthy, simple plot is what we need to regain faith in humanity.

Calliope is a 12 year old girl living with Tourette Syndrome. She and her mom move a lot and it is tough to make new friends while she is trying to hide her Tourette symptoms. This novel, written in verse, tells of Calli's time in St. George Utah where she meets a new friend, Jinsong, stands up to bullying and finds the strength to be her true self. It is a good story about courage and standing out.
2.5 - I love novels in verse, which is why I picked this up, but it didn’t feel lyrical enough for a novel in verse. I also did not care at all about the characters. The protagonist was a Stargirl that wasn’t anywhere near as endearing as Stargirl. Switching between POV was tough to keep track of. (Clean)

Second book for Battle of the Books! I really enjoyed this one and how it flipped between the two characters. It was sad, but not to the level some of the other books I’ve read for work have been so I appreciate that! I also loved the friendship between Calliope and Jinsong!
