The ending was very disappointing and unsatisfying
I never thought I’d rate TJR so low, but it’s so clear her writing has only improved with every book after this one, which fell flat for me. I loved the premise and the conversations that can bring up, but writing-wise I didn’t really care about either of the love interests and the main character’s only personality trait was that she likes cinnamon rolls. The only saving grace was the common thread of her friendship with Gabby in both lives
2 1/2 stars. Some parts I really liked, but a lot of parts I couldn't stand.

I love this concept. For those who don't like a "you decide" ending, this one is not for you. This concept was so well executed though, seeing the two pathways Hannah's life took, while there was lots of crossover between things happening in both "timelines", the ending was surprisingly different. I also listened to the author interview in the audiobook and I liked what she said about it showing there are lots of different ways to be happy. I think the characters were well fleshed out, and this was just another stunning book by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Definitely teared up a few times during too, it was beautiful.

It has always fascinated me to think about how one seemingly minute decision can change the entire course of one’s life. This early installment to the TJR-verse examines that idea closely, showing how one woman’s life takes very different courses based on one decision she makes.
Told in a split timeline (though not in the conventional sense) this story examines how Hannah Martin’s life would have unfolded had she chosen to stay out and reconnect with Ethan vs. going home early with her best friend Gabby. It was so amazing to me how so many things changed based on this one small choice (ie determining who her soulmate is in life, solidifying the time in her life that she becomes a mother, influencing whether or not she survives life-threatening injuries following a near-fatal accident), but also bewildering that so much stayed the same and happened anyway, regardless of the timeline (ie finding out about Gabby’s dirtbag husband cheating on her, Hannah becoming a nurse, Hannah realizing that Gabby is all the family she really needed all along).
I was so entranced by the story unfolding in both universes and my mind was blown when they collided so succinctly in the end, what with Hannah arriving at the exact same party with a guy who gives the exact same speech about alternate universes branching off from every decision made. Eye-opening and heart-rending in turn, this was hands down one of the most incredible stories I have ever read, and one I truly think will live with me for years to come.

Though definitely not life-changing or mind altering, I really can't deny that I do enjoy a Taylor Jenkins-Reid book. This one is no exception: I thought the premise was pretty inventive and that the characters did make me feel a lot of fondness (although also a lot of frustration). As with all of her books, I can clearly see this one being adapted into television/ film production. Hannah is a great character, even though her main characteristics appear to be having big boobs, loving cinnamon buns, and always having her hair in a bun.
