Even though I was alternately baffled by and annoyed with the plot, I still couldn't put the dang book down even though I was reading it in tiny print in a terrible format on my phone, because Charbonneau can write a page-turner.

Here's what I think happened... The author felt all the pressure of needing to end the book in a big way and decided to throw everything and anything she could at it. It gave me a headache to read. Characters behaved in ways that weren't normal - for them (as laid out in previous books) or for humans in general. What adult, and the President no less, would give the job of killing her enemies to a CHILD? And I love Cia's response to this request. You want me to trust your reasoning, blindly, and kill a dozen people? Oh, Ok. Also, is she super-human? How does she skate out of everything unscathed? Is it that magic bag she carries that conveniently houses everything she ever needs? Please get me one of those for Christmas. Ugh. Don't make me talk about this stupid book ever again. I only gave it two stars because the first book had promise.

The pacing in this book really suffered. After such an excellently paced first book it was disappointing.

Listen it’s got twists, but it was just missing something. There were moments this series totally had me, and there were many where I was just getting through it. But those twists sure are twisty, hmmmm…

I can't even describe the let down at the end of the book. There was a huge buildup to the overthrow of the government and being able to help the president which all came apart in the last 3 chapters. To be honest I have no idea what happened. At the end of the novel the President simply shows up, says "Sorry for killing your brother in this process" and Cia accepts it. Then decides to see the experiments they have been conducting and decides "yes this is the best thing for humanity" and moves back home. BUT WAIT. The only way to stop this crap from happening again is to leave the place she has been whining about for the last 2 books and leaves to make the city a better place.

Completely disappointed.

I am glad I finished this book but can’t stop thinking about where bigger things could have happened. Still glad I read it and enjoyed the series as well. Would recommend to youth especially!
