After a failed first date, Henry and Bennet agree to be just friends and spend the summer exploring New York City in search of their passion. I want to start by saying that this doesn’t read as a debut novel. The author has a strong voice and the dialogue between characters was funny. I appreciate the heavy undertaking of documenting the grieving process and how it affects all aspects of a person’s life and their relationships. However, while I loved Henry’s character, I really struggled with Bennet’s. It seemed like she was happy to be miserable and didn’t care at all about how her behavior affected those around her. I felt she said and did some things that probably shouldn’t be forgiven but they were because this is a romance novel. That being said, I will be reading from this author again because I believe they are just getting started and their work will only improve from here.
