After meeting the author at a book signing I was excited to read this story. Honestly I was not so sure about it just starting out, it was not bad or anything I just wasn't sure if it was my kind of book. Sometimes I'm a big fan of YA and sometimes not. Well I am of this one. Even though my copy is an Advance reader I still plan to buy a copy to share.
I love a story with fresh new ideas and Ally gives that to you. I also love a story that has a point, a story that makes you think and of course a story that gives back. I think its important to have stories out there in the YA world that have meaning, that are not just for fun.
I am inspired by the reminder that one should "not go gentle into that good night." The reminder that no matter how it might seem no one and nothing is perfect. The reminder of how lucky we are to have the choices we are able to make each day.
I hope and expect others to be inspired as well.

I liked it. It's no Hunger Games, but it has that dystopian future feel to it. Also has the boy she loves and the boy she love-loves. I'm tired of that part, but overall it was enjoyable, and I'd recommend to anyone who liked Twilight but doesn't need vampires, or liked The Hunger Games or Divergent.
I actually liked this chick lit dystopia, which revolves around the authoritative matching of teens within an authoritative society bent on domination and control. The pace of the novel is leisurely; it is not the heart pounding structure of The Hunger Games. It paints the same sinister picture of a society which has relinquished control for the sake of safety and perfection. Which presents a grand philosophical question: Is is better to have a perfect society which ensures long life and security at the expense of freedom? Nothing is free in Cassia's world, it is all strictly controlled, supposedly based on mathematical predictions and computer models. And there goes by the wayside humanity. But, to throw it all out means to accept the randomness of fate, terminal diseases, etc. Which is better? Which is ultimately the better choice?
Makes a great discussion point.
The storyline is well told, well written, and the characters well developed; there are surprises at the end, and it made me want to read the next installment.

*3.5
I was disappointed with this book. I really like the concept of a society where your partners and your whole are chosen for you. Basically the concept of any dystopian book. But I still like the concept even though it's not original. This book had a great concept...but an okay execution.
-------SPOILERS ALERT!!!-------
The plot was a little boring. Most of the book was about Cassia spending time with Ky and slowly falling in love with him. Which was fine but got a little tedious after after a while of non-plot development.
I felt so bad for Xander. He seemed like a great guy considering of all the times he looked out and help Cassia. But I personally don't see the romance between Cassia and Xander. I just don't see the romantic chemistry between them. Cassia also mentioned "loving" Xander, but I don't see that love showing very clearly. I remember reading about how if you are truly in love with a person, you won't fall in love with someone else (I'm paraphrasing but that's how I think it went). I'm not one hundred percent agreeing with it, but I think that's the case here in this story. If Cassia did really love Xander, she wouldn't fall in love with Ky. Though, things may change in the second book.
I admit, there were times when Cassia did and thought about some things that annoyed me. But she's an overall okay character. I don't love her like I do with Hermione and Katniss, but I don't hate her.
I think this book could've been a lot better. But I will still pick up the second book to find out what happens next to Cassia, Ky, and Xander.

Dystopia is so tired at this point and the romance aspect was lame. Disappointing.
3.5 stars. I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I liked the premise, and it was an easy, quick read.
