I am torn....I really liked the story and the idea behind the story, but I feel as if it has been told before. I enjoy the concept of the book with the idea of a perfect society where things are made so everything is perfect. Our matches are picked for us, we don't have to suffer in death. But with that is the lack of free will, of freedom, of choice.

I just feel that it is similar to the Hunger Games and maybe other books. There is the love triangle with boy that you feel you should be with and the one you want to be with (being the one that Society does not think is right for you). And then there is the choice and the struggling with it. However in this book there really is not suppose to be a choice and that leads to a problem. Big brother is always watching and having your own thoughts could be bad.

I can't wait to see if this series takes the shape of the others or finds a way to become its own.

DID NOT FINISH: 1%

I already can see it isn't my thing (mirror description) and first person POV. Probably I'm too old reader for this book.

I was instantly hooked to this series!! I flew through all three!!

I felt like I spent too much time in Cassia's head and not enough time in her world. She was the only character I got to connect with and she didn't have much depth. She was primarily concerned with the boy aspect and the reality of what her society was doing only seemed to be a problem for her in that dimension which made the book a little one dimensional.

Read to keep up with the YA my 6th grader is reading. This was derivative of "The Giver" and "Hunger Games" (among others, I think), with much weaker writing than either of those.

am i the one in the wrong here?

This book was okay.
I really didn't understand how she fell in love with Ky in that book and the ending didn't really make any sense. I understood that she was going to now fight the Society and the Officials but other than that, nothing really makes sense. Her revelations of the Society poisoning the elderly wasn't that big and when she told Ky it seemed so mediocre...
