I was intrigued by the summary so I jumped right in but quickly found out I may have been a little old for this book. It was okay. Not a lot of depth and the main character was alright. The only reasons I'm continuing was that finally the ending made me want to see what happens but also because I could see this being a series my girls end up reading. Definitely for younger readers.
I listened to and liked this dystopian universe YA novel. I will be reading the sequel, Reached.

I LOVE This Book but sadly i have to wait till september to read the last in the series.
Matched presents a look at life and death without choice, through the eyes of a sheltered teenaged girl and the two boys in love with her. The female protagonist's journey from gullible to enlightened was fascinating. This is an excellent young adult dystopian story, ranked with the likes of The Hunger Games and Scythe. Can't wait to start the sequel.
So I have to say a few things about this book and then I would like to discuss what so many people keep repeating in their reviews. One, it took me about 1/3 of the book to get interested. Once, I got past that point I quickly absorbed it. I enjoy romances, I enjoy characters facing obstacles, and I enjoy creativity. This book had all three elements.
Now about the constant reviews stating that this book is a rip off of the Giver. Well, I would just like to remind people that this type of situtation actually happened in Cambodia in the 70's. People were forced to conform to an non educated society. A society where no one could be better than the other. It was forced. Although, this book is written in a futuristic style, the same situations were actual situtations for people. I can understand that authors may write the same style of stories, going off the same ideas. But I feel this story was written more about the characters, than the situation. I liked the book and will read the next in the series.

„ My words never last long. I have to destroy them before anyone sees them.
But. I remember them all. For some reason, the act of writing them down makes me remember. Each word I write brings me closer to finding the right ones. And when I see Ky again, which I know will happen, I will whisper the words I have written in his ear, against his lips. And they will change from ash and nothing into flesh and bone.”
For a long time I was hesitant to pick up Matched and start reading it, worried it would be another cliché, dystopian book.
Never have I regretted leaving a book for so long on my TBR pile.
Matched is written as a perfect world where hunger, disease, and inequality has been erased and everyone is happy. Everything is calculated, so that everyone gets exactly what they need.
Ally Condie proved that even in a simingly perfect society, there will always be resistance.
Family and friends, who would sacrifice their own safety for love, trust, loyalty and the freedom to choose.
