Starting the new year with bang for sure.
Possibly the best book in the series, had a few minor cons so I am being a bit lenient with a 5 star rating but honestly this gave me all the feels.
Great character and relationships development.
But why the fuck did I thought starting an unfinished series would be fun? My god I can’t wait for the next book. Why I did this to myself?

Thank you to the author for the review copy, my opinions are my own.

I’ve been hooked from the beginning of Villain (book 1), with the video hookup between Nix and Maestro, and now we are neck deep in the mystery and messy relationship between Nic and the Demons (Lake, West, and Yejun).

I love the background political drama with Lake taking over the throne and Nix’s growth as a person - embracing his darker side and becoming more than the people pleaser he starts off as. This of course is book 3 of a very dark romance series, and there is a full page of trigger/content warnings that I highly recommend that everyone read, even if you have read one of Chani’s dark romances before.

Loved this one and I’m super excited for the next and final installment whenever it comes out.

I’m hurt to say this book underwhelmed me. Honestly, I hoped it was the last book because now the story is just dragging and I think I already know the ending. I really wanted Lake, West and June to start messing with each other it would just elevate the story so much. The relationships just feel uneven. I usually prefer why choose romances when everyone is together to not have the uneven distribution in the relationship. However, story was still good! I’m just not sure if I want to read book 4 and if I do just for the resolution. It hurts my feelings to give this less than a 4 star but I can’t give it more.

Book three dives in right where book two left off, with Nix still untangling the mystery of what happened to his cousin Branwen after her run-in with his Demons. I’ll admit, after how the last book ended, I was a little worried. I thought Nix might forgive Yejun way too soon, but thankfully, I was wrong. It was refreshing to see Nix really step into his own, becoming confident in both who he is and what he wants.

The story is packed with twists and turns, which kept me completely hooked. That said, I can’t help but think Yejun and the others are going to kick themselves over that “missing paperwork” situation when they went to file for Nix to officially become Lake’s mate. Seriously, how do you let something like that slip?

For some reason, I thought this was the finale of the series (spoiler: it’s not). Normally, I wait until a series is finished before diving in, but I don’t even mind. Chani Lynn Feener builds such immersive worlds that I’m always eager for more. Now I’ll just have to be patient while waiting for the next installment!
