For anyone who has felt left out, out of place, weird, different, or just awk-weird you will identify with this book!! Oh, how my heart broke everytime...EVERY single time, Tess drifted into the background, mentioned she was temporary in someone's life, that she was better off alone, etc...Avery Flynn you reached into my heart and put a big ol' squeeze on it with her character.

Awk-Weird is a romcom by all accounts, but it is also full of good touchy feely moments. Both Cole and Tess had childhoods full of upheaval, but they manifested their adulthoods in different ways. Cole is a control freak with a capital C and F while Tess is shy and doesn't people well.  These two were so right for each other, it just took them a bit to figure it out in the end and the story will make you laugh and cry while getting there.

At a wedding rehearsal dinner when both of their normal defenses were down and faulty condoms were used, Cole and Tess find themselves in the role of soon to be co-parents. Now, as they prepare for this big change, baby steps are made to prep them for the big one that is about to happen in a few months. Considering neither one saw this coming in their future, they have a lot of baby steps to make to get the up to speed in their communications skills, their emotional skills, their getting along skills...etc...

Did I mention they were both a bit awkward? Make sure you add this book to your TBR now!

I think I need to say that I have a thing for books that include one of the characters getting pregnant. It is just my weird thing.
Tess has always been the weird (honestly in my opinion intelligent) girl who spews facts and trivia when she is uncomfortable or doesn't know what to do in an awkward situation. So when she meets Cole at her best friend's wedding and they end up sharing a steamy night, the last thing she expects is to get pregnant even when she knows that condoms were used the three times they had sex that night (I had to add that because that shit is just impressive). Anyways with her pregnant, she finally believes that this is the family that she has always wanted but never had. She was dropped off by her mother in family homes where she never felt wanted and was always made to be a burden, so as expected she has reservations about not wanting to be a shitty parent, so she tells Cole and their relationship starts from there.
Cole who sticks to his routine so tightly, cannot believe what is about to come into his life and disrupts his routine life. But when her roof almost collapses in on her, he decides to let her come live with him. They began to fall in love and the FREAKY SEX SCENES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just read it

“We got weddinged.”

Tess grew up being shuttled from relative to relative, always saying the wrong thing and being reminded that she is a burden. Cole moved constantly due to his father’s career and craves stability and normalcy--to the point that change is wildly uncomfortable for him. When the two meet at their mutual friend’s wedding rehearsal, Tess is pleasantly surprised that Cole doesn’t make fun of her for knowing all the answers to the trivia questions and even invites her to play with him as a team against everyone else. It’s fun, she laughs, he laughs, and then they get weddinged. A couple of weeks, and four pregnancy tests later, Tess has a decision to make. Sure, the two of them get along, but with Cole staying hung up on his ex, can they move forward?

I love Avery Flynn. Her books fill me with joy and are also very personal. All of them have characters with deep insecurities, and Awk-Weird is no different. I laughed and I most certainly cried while reading this book. I found myself identifying with Tess and, surprisingly, with Cole. I especially identified with Tess’ fear of being a burden or an obligation to Cole, and really appreciated seeing a leading lady talk about these feelings in such a genuine and open manner. Both characters are wonderfully fleshed out and feel like old friends by the time the book ends.
Awk-Weird is definitely an adorable, easy, HEA read that any fan of contemporary romance novels should read!

So cute!

This book was adorable and had me laughing more than once. Tess’s awkwardness was very relatable as someone who also doesn’t people well. Cole’s development from the beginning of the story to the end was fantastic! This is the first book I’ve read from this author, but it definitely will not be the last!
