Little Women

Louisa May Alcott

4.1 AVERAGE

fast-paced

We join Jo, Beth, Meg and Amy March as they try to navigate life and stay together during the Civil War.

I haven't picked this up since I was around 16 year old and I loved it as much now as I did then. I love the relationship between the sisters. They stick together through thick and thin. Their love for their Mother is evident throughout the whole story. This is definitely a cosy, pick me up read when you've been in a bit of a slump.

Loved this book. An awesome classic.

Maybe I treated the book unfairly, as I started reading this around the time i'm reading a lot of fantasy and mystery, so i found it slow and rather boring. Though, I fell in love with the characters nonetheless. I would say, I enjoyed thinking about the book more rather than reading it (thus the rating). I loved the second part more than the first, but I will probably not continue with the next books.

Though If I ever have kids, I will read this to them. :)

I really loved this book. The first half of this book was so cozy and sweet, it made me very emotional when thinking about my own family. I found the second half much less enjoyable. While the first half feels modern, the second half dates it.
For instance, Jo giving up writing or Meg being blamed for neglecting her husband.
As is so common, I didn't like
Amy
as a character and I felt frustrated with her pairing
with Laurie. However, I was really happy to see this have a happy ending. Beth's death was written so beautiful it made me cry, and
Laurie was my favorite character along with Jo.
