4.5 stars! Love the FMC & MMC, the plot was interesting and engaging, and the build up was excellent. The mystery element also kept things interesting. Would maybe have liked a bit better explanation of the monsters, the countries, and how magic worked, but this wasn't enough to keep me from devouring the book.

I understand the hype now, I UNDERSTAND THE HYPE!
I love betrayals, I love arranged marriages, I love it all. I’m slightly confused on the monsters of the world, but the world building was simple enough to understand that I could fill in the gaps, and it also was a unique monster system as well. I am excited to see how the plot thickens and see how our main characters continue to…connect.
Though, my biggest issue was how quick our girl is to forgive her betrayers. Perhaps it was because she was already questioning things, perhaps it was because she understood the need for the cover ups, perhaps she just really liked them as people and could overlook it. I do understand her relief she felt, though I would also feel some guilt in her shoes too.
