This is a novel concentrating on World War 1, taking us from the years 1914 and through to 1924. In short, it's extremely interesting, and gripping. There were a few explicit scenes that you might want to skip, but other than that, the characters were all nothing in short of three dimensional. To me, at least. My favorites were Ethel, Walter, Maud, and Grigori. Maybe even Billy and a few others! I loved to hate Fitz, but he didn't seem so bad at first. I'd love to pick the second book in the trilogy and eventually, the third.

La parte histórica es interesante, pero la narración es muy forzada. A los protagonistas les pasa de todo y son esenciales para la guerra y la revolución rusa, con la excepción de Lev, cuyo arco es completamente innecesario.

Falemos, então, um pouco dos gigantes... Um "monstro" de 900 páginas. Um leque de personagens grande demais para contabilizar, centrado em cinco famílias de cinco nacionalidades diferentes (Inglesa, Escocesa, Russa, Alemã e Americana) e estratos sociais diversos. Vários temas fraturantes da história mundial do início do século XX, como a Primeira Grande Guerra, o sufrágio feminino ou a Revolução Russa.
Um livro pesado, figurativa e literalmente.
Premissas "assustadoras" que me fizeram deixá-lo na estante durante muito tempo. Quando ganhei finalmente coragem de avançar, apaixonei-me!
Ken Follett brindou-me com uma obra magnífica, que me prendeu do princípio ao fim. Com tanta página, seria de esperar momentos mortos e dificuldades em avançar a dadas alturas mas, surpreendentemente, tal nunca aconteceu, ou, pelo menos, nunca de forma a comprometer o avanço da leitura.
Há MUITO tempo que nenhum livro me vidrava e agarrava tanto como os Gigantes. Um romance poderoso e, essencialmente, uma lição de história ímpar, admiravelmente apresentado. Venha o segundo volume desta trilogia "O Século", que ainda há muito para descobrir e aprender!

Good but very LONG. I didn’t like it as much as The Pillars of Earth or World Without End, but the story was really well told, and history came alive on the page. It was a good refresher on WWI history. I loved Maude; Gus, the American. Loved to hate Fitz, his wife, and Lev.

I ended up really enjoying this book. After a slow start it felt like the story got rolling along nicely. I have no clue how historically accurate some of the events are but it was still a fun read. I am looking forward to the next one.
