When I was getting ready to visit Botswana, everyone recommended that I read this book (and it's sequels). I wan't really that excited about the idea since this book is about a young African woman but written by an old Scottish* man. BUT, when I got to Botswana, a local woman raved about it and said that it really captured the culture and feel of Botswana. So, I decided to give it a try. She was right!! I can see a lot of the culture and descriptors even though I have only been here for a short time. As far as the mystery goes, it's not that strong, but this is a book that you read in order to "travel" somewhere new.
*It turns out that Alexander McCall Smith was born in Zimbabwe and worked as a law professor at the University of Botswana. Only now does he live in Scotland.

An enjoyable, simple read. No real mystery involved but the stories were fun and I liked the characters.

I love the whole series. Mr. Smith's tone of condescension bothers me a little but the stories are too much fun to pass up.

Just couldn’t get into the writing or the story
Classic AMS. Very easy reading with incredibly low stakes and very fun characters. Great idle reading with simple short stories/mysteries in each chapter.
