Very much enjoyed this start to this much-loved series. It’s a bit like a short story collection, with a handful of cases to solve. There is some progression to the story, but I liked this introduction to this new whole world.

Easy read and somewhat interesting, but I wish it had delved into a couple mysteries rather than glazing over a bunch
It was too sad and it had a rape. Pretty writing and very compelling. I might give it another try some time.

There is an unusual structure to this book. In part it's like a biography of Precious Ramotswe and thrown in is a collection of short stories from the detective agency she established at the age of thirty-four. It's set in Botswana with lots of observations about the culture and history of the country, so it's rather an informative type of read. It's not a classic crime book with a large case to solve being the focus of book. Precious is the focus of this book and her struggles and successes in live.
This is the first of the series, of which there are 26 books, and I will most likely read more.
