weird asf book what the hell. i spent the entire book so confused about what was going on and so just lost but also at the same time i think it was meant to be like that?? like i wasn’t lost because i didn’t understand the plot the book just didn’t explain half the weird things going on intentionally until the end. but also i could not put it down and i enjoyed it so i think feeling confused was part of that. anyway the world building in this was insane like how the hell did the author come up with his plot it was so odd but also really good and defintly a different type of creative. also INCREDIBLY violent like WOW every second chapter was a new insane gory way someone died. but somehow the book was also funny?? like it was written in a comedic way at the same time as being really odd and violent? I loved Steve and the lions so much like him and naga and his entire escape from jail was my favourite thing ever. i was a little confused on the point of Erwin but he was chill too. Carolyn also I didn’t really understand but im glad she figured it out in the end and I felt bad for her because that’s a whole new level of trauma. Margaret just freaked me tf out and same with David. also the way this book was marketed to me was so incredibly false like nothing I was told would happen happened. I actually think that the way the author did absolutely no explanation or world building or anything until the very end but still made the book interesting and good enough to keep me super invested was very well done. um but yeah weird read but still somehow really good

I feel like I should have liked this more because it was pretty creative, but it was way too grossly dark and just had too much of everything, even good stuff like twists, for it to be enjoyable. There were also like no ground rules for the magic or world so it was just really disorienting and fundamentally unfulfilling.

I liked the parts with Carolyn's plan, both its origins and her badass execution of it, but that was not a major part of the book, even though it's the backbone. Steve and Erwin trying to make sense of the wtf-ness around them was also entertaining.

I wasn't opposed to the ending, though it didn't really have much oomph, especially compared to the rest.

DID NOT FINISH: 32%

I read 128 pages in one day while waiting for my mom to get out of a surgery and then there were some complications and this was absolutely not a priority and then I wasn't in the mood
