I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There were some imperfect bits but overall it was really cool and really really unique. It's a little like adult Percy Jackson but also weirdly kinda feels like Once Upon a Time in the way that its magic ("no such thing as magic, Steve") but set in the real world. It's got a good dosage of humor to keep it light enough on top of some heavy stuff which is good. I felt like it had some mystery elements that didn't play out as well as they could have and yet it wasn't really the focus despite being a good-sized plot point so I am not sure that matters.
I really with Hawkins had more written that I could check out.

Loveddddd the characters and the world. Everything was so strange and weird I loved how I never really knew what was happening. Need an epilogue solely for Petey.

HOLY MOLY THIS WAS SO GOOD!!!! It reminded me of The Rook with the crazy over the top violence and the general batshit crazy ideas, but it might have even been better. It was SO good!!! The description makes it sound like something it’s not- almost a little light and fluffy like that library of the dead book I read earlier- it is not light or fluffy. It is SUPER violent and just absolutely dark. But it’s also hilarious and heart warming and just amazing. I can’t believe it was published in 2016!! And he hasn’t written anything else except computer programming books?! I need spin-offs!! I need more Erwin and Naga and Dresden!! I could stomach a bit more Carolyn (maybe) and I need to catch up with Mrs McGillicuty like RIGHT NOW. If this type of dark bloody amazing story is your jam, I highly HIGHLY recommend this one. WOW!! What a ride!!!

THERE'S SO MUCH PACKED INTO THIS BOOK!!! HOLY CRAP!!! I consistently felt myself immersed anyways.
The way Hawkins writes is captivating. What a unique and horrifying setting and story. This is one of those books where I wanted to (and did) stay up way too late reading simply because I couldn't stop. I wanted to know more. I DO think it was a little too convoluted at times, but I think that's partially because I've never read anything quite like this. Delightfully bizzare and wild.
