I was so happy when I randomly saw this copy at Fullybooked Mistukoshi one day that I ordered it online (with discount) immediately as it was the only copy. Being able to continue Coyote and Rodeo’s adventures one more time got me so excited that I had to squeeze it into my August tbr because I miss them all so much!
This is one of my favorite middle grade gems that just stood out for me because of how the author properly and mindfully talks about grief and loss. Its also one of my favorite themes- found family and one thing that automatically tugs my heartstrings- dad and daughter dynamics. I love that I got to know them both deeper in this sequel, how they make space for each other, not pushing when one is not ready, being honest, not afraid to be vunerable and supporting each other even when they don’t always agree. Their journey reminded me that as long as you have a core purpose then everything else is fun, good music and a learning experience.
This is a book you can gift to anyone young and old and something that goes well with themed readings like adventure, friendship or father’s day. Its a sequel and better if you enjoyed book1 first as like me, you’re more attatched to the characters already but all of them are so easy to love and the author gives enough context for book2 that you can also read this independently.
The idea of spreading my ashes in the pages of my favorite book has been inspired by the last wish of Coyote’s mum. This is one i’m definitely requesting from my family before they (sorry for the sudden morbid topic) send me to the crematorium. This is my third middle grade read this month and i’m no longer surprised that heavy topics like death or substance abuse (MoonPie) are talked about in this level.
Happy to meet the new crew in this adventure as well- Candace, Fig and Ivan, Salvador, Doreen and Wally.
so to end, here are my answers for the 3 important questions before riding Yager the bus:
- What is your favorite book?
- Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs 🐦⬛
- What is your favorite place in the world?
- Home, wherever my family and books are❤️
- What’s your favorite sandwich?
- Grilled cheeezZ! 🧀😋

Listened to this on a tosd trip with my 12 year old snd we were both fully engaged. I cried a couple times which is not ideal for driving, but couldn’t be stopped. Great story, fun characters.
