This sequel started out pretty good and I quickly remembered how much I loved the author’s voice. But the last third had me feeling all the feels, crying real tears, and wanting to mark whole passages. Fantastic on audio.

I did not have high hopes for the second installment of the Coyote Sunrise series but I AM SO GLAD I WAS WRONG. Somehow, Dan Gemeinhart was able to totally encapsulate my attention and emotions. I was hooked the whole time by Coyote's spunk and her coming-of-age story. Highly recommend reading this one - it is a great example of a book that makes me love reading.

Coyote and cast are back and better than ever. She is more settled and living I Oregon but still not done coping with the past events. The COVID shutdown of 2020 creates the backdrop for another epic road trip. This book is full of heart and soul and insight into the grieving process.

Hoo boy, tears! That was a bit heart wrenching. Pretty deep stuff for a kids book. As usual, a fantastic story with some super quirky characters. What a journey! This one is more about grief than the first. Well, it felt more. So much character development.
It takes place during the pandemic so it’s a little weird that they set out on this journey just when we were all supposed to be sheltering in place. But whatever, it somehow worked.
I liked it but I think I liked the first one better. The quotes in the last part though…so many great quotes about life and loss and love. I need to get a copy of this when it comes out in paperback and highlight all those great quotes!

Thanks to Netgalley and MacMillan for the advance Kindle copy of this 2.27.24 release. All opinions are my own.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5. Ugh, just as good and heartfelt as the first. Coyote and Rodeo have settled down and are living a “normal” life in a house without wheels, a regular job, and middle school. But Coyote’s world is rocked again when she finds her mother’s ashes hidden in Yager (because of course he’s still parked at their house). When her dad tells her that he and her mom both wrote their wishes for their ashes in her mom’s favorite book of poetry, Coyote realizes she gave the book away during their last trip. As the Covid pandemic closes school, Coyote convinces Rodeo to go on a trip to scatter the ashes - without him knowing that they have to find the book first. I can’t wait to get this into students’ hands. Another winner.
