Very cute. But don't let the romance part overshadow the critiques of classism and racial microaggressions told from the perspective of a working-class Asian American youth. I really enjoyed the Zombie contest plot, which skews toward sci fi. Only part I didn't like so much was the near moustache twirling villain. I wouldn't be mad at a sequel though.

*˚。⋆ ➵ i chose to read this because i really wanted a cute romance book that had a different plot than the average YA romance. well, unfortunately, i was not given that. i can’t think of a single thing i liked about this book. the main characters, Nate and Kate, were dull and uninteresting. i didn’t care about their separate lives and i certainly did not care about their romance. they had zero chemistry. not a sprinkle. also, for this being a book about zombies, i can tell you there were not that many zombies. the lead up to the survivalist competition was boring and once we reached it, it was just disappointing. oh, and the worst part was the constant amount of modern references and slang. just off the top of my head, i remember hearing about tom holland, harry potter, and adam levine. and the characters kept using slang like, “OMG”, “WTF”, and “slay”. do we REALLY need to keep adding this type of stuff into books?? no, i think not. anyways, that’s my review. read this book at your own risk!

Ok this wasn't my favorite book I have read from this author. I kept hoping the romance would be entertaining enough for me to enjoy the story, but I honestly got bored with it at some points.

This was a unique spin on your typical rom-com. Having met while working at a zombie themed escape room, Nate Kim and Kate Anderson decide to team up to compete in a zombie survival competition. They are hoping to split the grand-prize since they each have a need for the money. When the competition heats up, can Nate and Kate's blooming relationship survive?

Overbearing fathers, jerk jocks and zombies, oh my!

Nate needs money quickly to help his family. Kate needs money to escape her overbearing, unbearable father. Although Nate's offered money to tank his school grades, they decide on a zombie run instead.

This is a sweet, funny read, but some of the story choices hit me a bit oddly. It's a great story until you think about it a bit more deeply, so if you're just looking for a good popcorn read this is the one!

3.5 - ZOMBIE ROBOTS. Yep so that's a thing in this YA summer romcom between Korean American Nate and Kate, the girl he meets working at a Zombie escape room. This was generally a light-hearted story but it was heavier on the dysfunctional family relationships.

Nate is a smart kid that's getting pressured from his rich peers to commit grade fraud in exchange for a lot of money. He also feels a lot of (what turns out to be self-imposed) pressure from his parents to help them out financially. So when a survival challenge comes up with a huge cash prize Nate and Kate team up to try to get to the end and win the money. The whole contest was a little surreal (I would say you need to suspend your disbelief to enjoy that aspect a bit).

I did love Nate's cute little sister Lucy, who was always getting into Nate's things and I thought the author did a really good job showing the pain Kate experiences being largely on her own with a dead mother and an absentee father. Kate wants to win the money so she can move out on her own after high school.

Overall kind of a mixed bag with some really funny moments I loved and some heavier family drama moments a lot of teens will probably be able to relate to.
