Great start, lots of promise, then it got a bit boring for me. I still enjoyed the book but I think I wanted the tension to continue for longer than it did.

Enjoyable sweet book.

Tropes/Themes:
-MF sports romance (hockey)
-New adult college setting
-Childhood best friends to enemies/strangers to lovers
-Groveling
-Anxiety rep (both hero and heroine)
-Dual POV
-Book #1 in an interconnected standalone series

This book has been getting a TON of hype on Bookstagram lately, but unfortunately I thought it was just okay. I could understand the unifying and ultimately devise factors contributing Kodiak and Lavender’s multifaceted relationship, however I couldn’t really get on board with the poor communication and misguided actions (especially from the hero). I really appreciated the anxiety rep from both Kodiak and Lavender and found a lot of it to be really relatable. This was a super solid new adult romance, I just didn’t love it as much as everyone else seems to.

CWs for thwarted child kidnapping attempt, on page depictions of anxiety and panic attacks (including unconscious self-injurious behavior)

Story: 3/5
Audiobook: 5/5 (narrated by Teddy Hamilton & Stella Bloom)
Length 10h46min

This was book #57 for Romanceopoly 2020.

Pack: Sun
Square: Coffee Shop
Challenge:

Omg! This book is so good. It is a departure from Hunting’s usual romcoms but no less enjoyable. I hope that some of the secondary characters get their own stories in the future.
