Started re-reading the whole series on 16 feb 2024.
I've heard that the newer volumes aren't as good anymore but for now I'm enjoying the nostalgia of the first volumes haha.
Yona has been one of my biggest writing-inspirations for years now and I still love it. This is one of those stories where I don't even care about any flaws or writing mistakes or whatever because I enjoy it so much that I'm just sucked away by the plot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Reading Reindeer December Challenge
Prompt: Comet--5 star prediction
Welp, that prediction came true.
This is an incredible first volume. Kusanagi went all-out giving Yona, Hak, and Su-Won depth, character, and personality. The paneling and art were phenomenal, I could feel the care Kusanagi put into each panel. The world is interesting and while I'm not a huge fan of manga with political themes, there's enough intrigue that I think I'll be good. I'm very curious to learn more about Su-Won and the other tribes as well as seeing Yona develop as a character. There's definitely a spark in her, she's just so overcome with grief and trauma that it's hidden right now. I've heard that her development is a slow burn and while I feel that may put off some people, I'm all here for it.
I've had my eye on this series for awhile and I'm glad I decided to give it a chance. There's so much in this volume and yet I'm already wanting more. I can't wait to see where this story goes.

Beautiful fantasy manga. Tragic story about friendship, love, and family. I am interested in continuing with the series.

I refrained from giving this book a star rating because I am not a manga fan, however I wanted to sort out my thoughts with a review.
First, the art is very spirited and imbued with an incredible sense of movement. It was occasionally hard to follow the threads of the story, but it’s highly possible that’s mostly due to my own unfamiliarity with the format.
Secondly, the characters are a bit cartoonish (and yes this is a drawn medium but you know what I mean). They were very one-dimensional and their actions were pretty predictable. The dynamic was obvious from the beginning. I would’ve loved more depth.
Lastly, I HATED the random unrelated asides from the author. What does your opinion on salad have to do with the story at hand?! This may be common practice in the genre and if it is, it only cements the fact that this isn’t for me.
I’m happy I branched out and gave this genre a serious try, but it’s not for me.
