I loved this well-written, funny, quick read.

I Will follow Him is written in the first person from the point of view of Francie Meddling, a might-as-well-be-single, thirty-one year old, struggling private detective. In her private life, she has a forty-five year old boyfriend, Bink, who graces her with his presence whenever he is in town. He drives for a living, and when he does turn up, all he wants is to fall asleep on her sofa.

The way Francie describes herself leads me to think she has low self-esteem. She seems willing to settle for the crumbs Bink sweeps her way and feels inadequate when comparing herself with other women.

Francie is hired by Danielle Payne, fiancée to Evan Aronson, who recently lost both his parents in a plane crash, and inherited the family business worth millions. Danielle is concerned that he is cheating on her, and wants hard evidence to confront him with. Francie's job is to spy on Evan and report back to Danielle on whether he is unfaithful to her whilst on his week-long cruise with his bachelor friends.

Francie goes on the cruise - paid for by Danielle - where she expects to blend into the background and get the job done. That is until a group of girls befriend her, show her how to use a little make-up, and help her with her wardrobe. From that point her life changes completely in this delightful, light-hearted romantic comedy.

I disliked Danielle from the start. Although her concerns seem plausible, Francie notices something in her manner that doesn't quite fit with her story, and my mind raced away wondering what her true motives were. And with the mention of a legal document - well that was Danielle firmly on my 'baddie' list.

I also didn't like Bink. He put no effort into his relationship with Francie, and very much takes her for granted.

The other characters are all likeable, particularly the group of boys and girls Francie falls in with.

This is an enjoyable, quick read, guaranteed to leave a smile on your face.

Private Investigation Gone Wild

This book is book five in the Oceanic Dreams series. Most of the storyline is set in a week long mostly singles cruise. The main character is a private detective. Her client pays for her to go on a cruise to investigate and provide proof of infidelity. This cruise turns the character's life upside down as she goes through a lot of personal growth and development. Some sweet romantic moments but no sexy heat in this story. For a light vacation type read it works fine.

Fun! Fun! Fun! This was a quick easy breezy lighthearted story that put a huge smile on my face! This is the second book I’ve read this week that took place on a cruise ship, makes me want to go on another cruise! This is the fifth book in the “Oceanic” series, but each book is written by a different author so they can definitely be read as standalones. The perfect book to pack in your beach bag for a lazy afternoon read in the sun.

Francie has landed herself a gig as a private detective. Her new client Danielle has hired her to go on a weeklong cruise and keep an eye on her fiancé, who she thinks is up to no good. Big red flag here! If you need to hire someone to keep tabs on your fiancé during his bachelor party/vacation, perhaps you should not marry him? Just a thought! Danielle true to form was a neurotic bridezilla with a huge obsession with texting and needing to know everything at all times day and night. Really liked Francie and felt for her having to deal with Danielle. The bachelors were all great, can’t see what the groom saw in the bride, but that’s another story. Loved the romance that sparked between Francie and the bestman. There was a lot of fun and sun packed into this little gem of a book!

*** thanks to the author for my copy of this book ***

After refreshing my memory on Goodreads, I knew I’d be in for a romance and it sounded like it was going to be funny. I will admit that I didn’t get much of an opportunity to laugh. But not because of the writing or the story!

Well, kind of because of the story. I read 2 chapters (so like 15 minutes of reading) before bed on the Monday night and noticed I’d read 16%. I then read on the bus to work the next morning and saw I’d reached 50% by the time I got to work. Read a bit more at lunch, then finished it before I got home!

This was so easy to read and enjoy. Which is the total opposite of Francie’s cruise trip. I mean, everything that could go wrong did go wrong in a way. I feel kinda bad for her and how she handled herself in the various situations.

I’m not quite sure I totally believe the romance of this story but it’s super sweet and it was so fun. And I loved the message that was being sent. Francie described herself as being pale, dirty blonde hair and nothing really to look at. Right near the end she even said she was a size 10 (size 14 for those of us in Australia or the UK). Which I don’t think is too bad if you’re average height, never exercise and don’t eat the healthiest of foods. I’d say she’s doing pretty damn well!

It was a bit of a shock to find I’d finished the book after all of her adventures, and misadventures, and I found myself wanting to know more about Francie and Eli’s relationship as it develops. I guess after totally surprising my with that one being so short and sweet it’s time to move on.

Holly will keep you laughing with this installment of the Oceanic Dreams series. I love having a PI as a main character and reading as she struggles with the ethics of her job and finding romance at the same time.

I'm a little conflicted on the rating but I would say 2.5 stars for now.

There wasn't much wrong with this book per say, it's just that it felt pretty flat. When you're reading a book you what to be immersed in the story but I felt like I was looking upon Jamie's story from afar.

I liked Jamie's character and wish we could have gotten a little more of her backstory and character development. It especially seemed that she had no motive in life and anyone could see what a non-existent love life she had despite having a so-called boyfriend, except her.

There were small things that irked me a lot, especially how Francie continues to say that she's a great detective but does stupid things as if this is her first case.I got really mad at the part where the leaves obscured her pictures. I mean if you're taking pictures for evidence would you not like check them for a second? Also there's a whole person in this plot who was in this very picture clicking scene who's storyline comes out of nowhere and is then left untouched and forgotten which was very strange.

I have so many questions about Francie. How is she 32years old living alone and has never heard or seen of a highlighter? She acts really stupidly on various occasions during her detective work and I honestly feel anyone could be a better detective than her.

If we come to the plot I feel it was okay and maybe with a different direction and a little more of the mystery element this could have gone in a much better direction.

This book was so funny! Frankie was hilarious. There were a few times where she irritated me with how dumb she was but over all she was a hoot! Eli was a great guy and the plot was nice. Good, quick read!!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Even though this novella is part of the Oceanic Dreams series, I believe it is a stand alone as previous books are written by different authors so really doesn’t matter if you start with this one or any of them in actual fact.

What better setting than on a cruise ship! I’ve got to admit I’ve never been on one but it sure sounds fun. Then again neither has the protagonist in the story, in fact she’s never travelled abroad or anywhere that far from home!

I had to feel sorry for Francie. Even though she is self employed working as a private detective, her new client is one from hell. Never giving her a moments peace with numerous texts and phone calls every day. Some jobs just really arn’t worth the money.

I won’t go to much into the story but it is very much a light hearted read with fun and frolicks galore with a splash of romance added in. I pretty much devoured it in one sitting with the short chapters and engaging story line. I Will Follow Him is definitely one to add to your holiday pile or any time pile as it is a relatively quick and easy read and an enjoyable one at that.

My thanks to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.
