Mostly solid writing from King -- each story has a short memoir-ish introduction from King that for me bumped this up to 4 stars.
There were some fine stories here, but none were great. The one Amazon paid him to write about a magical Kindle was pretty shameless.

I really enjoyed reading this book of short stories! I know many people associate King with the horror genre, which I love, but so many of these short stories illustrated his talents in other genres as well. I had no idea he wrote poetry, either! One of my favorites was "Mile 81". I may never think of a rest stop the same way again! I also loved "The Dune", "Bad Little Kid", and "Summer Thunder", but my favorite was "Under The Weather"- for that slow, unsettling realization that something terrifying is about to happen- that I think only a short story can fulfill. I found myself writing down ideas for short stories throughout my experience with this book. I may just have to try out writing some short stories this summer when I have some extra time! I look forward to reading more of King's books of short stories in the future. Thanks for this book, Mrs. Tannyhille! :)
I really enjoyed this short story collection, which had a variety of types of stories, some horror most not. I particularly liked that King wrote an intro in his own voice to each story.
Fourth star possibly earned because I finished it while on the deck of a cruise ship at sea. :)
It's difficult to rate a book of short stories, some were 5 stars, others were 2. I enjoyed most of the stories, and I didn't read a couple of others. It's Stephen King though, and I always enjoy his storytelling abilities. My favourite was Ur, followed by Drunken Fireworks.
I just have to add a quick note about this book. At the beginning of every story, Stephen King writes about how that story came to be. This, to me, was as entertaining as the stories themselves.
