This whole series has been a journey in the study of my relationship to Morpheus. He grew on me so slowly but completely that I decided to give this book a first 5⭐️ rating of this year. He was one of the most consistently improper, wholly inhuman, faulted to the end, yet so selfishly selfless, so morbid, and funny, and I kinda understood why even the Cheshire Cat was shipping him with Alyssa there in the beginning.

Not to say that Jeb or Alyssa or other characters didn’t get their time to shine.
Jeb was night to the sunshine he was in Splintered. For most of the Unhinged he was clueless about what was happening, but in this book he went everywhere, he is the main reason I marked this as dark, he truly went unhinged here, his inner struggle was so well written from another persons POV, and the way he overcame his inner torture was amazing.

And the sacrifices made. Those were chefs kiss. I’m always annoyed by exclusive toxic monogamy, it’s like the worst thing ever, and yet, this book is an example of solving my problem with it by not solving it (let’s call it the Schrödinger Cat of monogamous relationships). I loved it!

I enjoyed Alyssa’s relationship with her father, and I loved that Tommy got to rediscover his past, and while his bloodline did some spicing up for Alyssa’s superpowered genealogy, nothing major (ergo: I was wrong at the end of Unhinged).

I’m not ready to part from this world. And I’m going to gladly pick up other works by A.G. Howard, I need more of this whimsy and spice (and everything maybe nice)

No, troppo difficile. Per dirlo alla Hanna Montana: you get the best of both worlds!

Fanculo.

A maddening and romantic conclusion to the Splintered trilogy. I definitely recommend it.

First thing that I noticed was that they skip the end of the conversation between Alissa and her dad, they just dive straight into getting his memories. I was really surprised by this because I really wanted to know his reaction to the whole situation.
Also is over half of the book dedicated to resolving the romantic sub-plot that has been going on and it almost pulled me out of the story. Only after that is (kind of) resolved does the story focus shift to fully tell the plot that has been going on the whole time. It does have a nice ending but I would have liked to know more about the rest of Alissa's life with Jeb and the occasional interferance of Morpheus.
Guess I'll have to wait for the novella

The epilogue was the best part....I feel like maybe some of the middle part of the book was dragged out a little.

Overall:

This book was definitely darker and macabre than the last two. While the whimsy and fantasticalness was present, I felt like it wasn't as strong in this book. Maybe I was too use to it by now or the darkness overshadowed it.

However, it was a good end for the trilogy. I would like to see more books about this wonderland. Preferably from a minor character or from either Alyssa or Ivory.

Good:

I was delighted by the darkness of this book. While the other two had dark undertones, this book completely outdid the other two. Netherlings intentionally committing suicide, hearts being torn out, Jeb, and of course what happened with Alyssa.

I enjoyed ElseAnyWhere as well. It was an interesting concept and gave some depth to Alyssa's dad and to the overarching plot. I'm curious on what one would have to do to be banished there and what some of the other horrors are.

Alyssa is still a badass and I'd like her to be on my side in the event of an apocalypse.

Bad:

Once again, the love triangle is annoying. I hate that A.G. Howard made romance the driving force for many of Alyssa's decisions. I felt like this book could have been so much more if the romance was pushed to the side. The ending wasn't to my taste either. While I appreciate how she ended it and understood why she chose that route, I felt like it was a... romantic deus ex machina.

I wish we could've seen more of Wonderland. For a book series centered around Wonderland we saw so little of it. I absolutely adore and love the Wonderland she has created.

My only other problem was she jumps around the plot a little bit. It needs to be more structured and less plot twisty.
