It was quite a long time of waiting for Daire and Rosie's story after Jude's. If you didn't know, I did enjoy Jude and Millie's story so much (Broken Boys Can't Love), and reading and finishing this one makes me want to reread and experience the angsty love story of Jude and Millie again.

The writing of Rule Breakers Falll Hardest is one that I liked so much. I just love how it's gripping, really fits right in the story, and another thing is that it kept me in my toes from the start until the end— waiting for those ANGSTY ANGSTY chapters.

I would say this novel isn't that angsty, more like 40% angsty (soft angsty) and 60% cute, fun, and wholesome in a sense.

The characters were likeable as well, especially the interaction. I'm glad to see previous characters reappearing, especially Jude. I also enjoyed that there are character developments here, although I'm still mad at Rosie's mom. I want to hug and just hide Rosie from everyone as well as Bettie. Gosh, I'm so worried about these 2.

The romance development was good, in my opinion, I enjoyed their interaction and the chemistry and tension here, although I hope the tension was more intense. There wasn't much of grovelling in Daire's part,  I would have loved to see him grovel more, to be honest. The love scene was well written, as well, I did like it.

That being said, although I was thankful that it wasn't that angsty, I had these little voices in my head wishing it was more angsty angsty just like how angsty Broken Boys Can't Love is.

Anyway, I can't really wait for Luke and Bettie's story. I'm gonna start counting days now.

If you like these tropes, you definitely should check this one out ✨️

°sports romance (hockey)
°childhood friends to enemies to lovers
°marriage of inconvenience
°college romance
°well written romance

Overall, this was such a good read. I was hooked there and there. Highly recommended 👌  Thank you so much to Valentine Pr and author Micalea for the e-arc opportunity ♡

Finally we got Daire’s story and even though it took us years to get it, it was worth the wait. Daire and Rosie’s story was everything I expected it to be and more. The tension between them was there but it quickly turned into teamwork, admiration and love once you added Daire’s son into the mix. Everything they thought they knew or wanted out of life quickly changed and they suddenly can’t imagine their life any differently as a little family. The chemistry between them is intense and deep because of their connection and love.

Rule Breakers Fall Hardest is the sixth book in @micaleasmeltzer The Boys series and i thought it was going to be the last one but it’s not! We are going to at least get one more story between Daire’s teammate Luke and Rosie’s best friend Bertie which will be coming out next year.

Thank you @valentine_pr_ and @micaleasmeltzer for this eARC in exchange for my honest feedback.

Daire needs a fake wife. Who better than Rosie, his childhood best friend. Except they hate each other now. Reluctantly Rosie agrees. Daire makes a rule that Rosie is not allowed to fall in love with him.

There was an element of this story I was absolutely not prepared for based on the blurb. Right from the prologue, I was hooked. Due to this surprise element, I’m keeping this review shorter/different.

I didn’t like Daire. In fact I was mad at him for most of the story (I knew I would like him, but he was mean and I wanted to throat punch him). And I did absolutely fall for him. He really does love Rosie and had for awhile. The second chance for these two was exactly what they needed.

No third act breakup!  Just adults growing and maturing in their relationship with each other and their families.

This is an interconnected standalone. I didn’t read the previous books and I don’t feel it completely necessary but man oh man am I excited for the next book!

Daire asks Rosie to marry him because he needs a wife to show he’s able to get custody of his infant son. He loves his son and wants to know him and be a father to him even though he was unplanned. Rosie doesn't want to agree, he broke her heart at 16 and ever since then they have been enemies. But she also knows she'll regret if she doesn't help him. They quickly get married and move in together on their college campus. Their families are friends and when they go home for holiday break they tell them the news of their marriage. Their familes are shocked. Their feelings are confusing because they’re married in name only and they both openly admit they hate each other. But as their feelings grow and they also work together to take care of Sammy their love for him and each other grows where they can’t deny that their fake marriage has become so much more.

Thanks to the author for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Review: A heartwarming hate to love romance!

“Rule Breakers Fall Hardest” follows Rosie Thomas as she enters a fake marriage to help Daire Hendricks, her former childhood crush, get custody of his child. Despite their hatred for each other, the benefits of their arrangement are worth it. But what neither of them expects, is when playing house starts to feel a little too real.

The circumstances leading up to Rosie and Daire’s nuptials make their love story unique. I admire Daire’s commitment to being a father and Rosie for helping him be a part of his child’s life. Their fake marriage gave them the opportunity needed to work through past misunderstandings and repair their relationship. Smeltzer does a great job establishing that they still feel deeply for one another and their forced proximity allowed those feelings to flourish. I love how they supported each other as their new lives took shape. I lived for the moments when they became a team, like when they formed a united front to break the news about their hasty trip to the alter to their parents, worked their way through an infant CPR class together, and went shopping for the baby together. They showed up for each other, whether that be at hockey games or wedding dress appointments. Admittedly, I thought that the way Daire’s custody battle was resolved was a little too convenient, but I adore the little family Rosie, Daire, and Sammy became!

This one is just so good!!

If you know me at all you know I’m a Micalea fan, the way she tells a story just hits different.  I love this series so much, and Daire just might be my favorite, which says a lot, because I thought it would always be Teddy!

Daire and Rosie’s story is filled with everything you could ask for.  The decisions they make, the questions they ask each other, the expectations they have for themselves, these are the things that make you love these two and you hope for that HEA.

Micalea gave us a beautifully written emotional story with no third act breakup which is something I kindof really love.  She gives us all heart, a little bit of drama and all the steam we could ask for.  This book is a standalone as all the books in this series are, but I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you just how good all of these books in this series are.  You really are going to want to read them all!

This is only the second book I've read from this author and I'm in love. He was kind of an ass for the first part of the book but I grew to love him pretty fast. He just wanted to be the best father he could be for that little boy. Daire didn't want to fall in love with Rosie but it was bound to happen. They are perfect together and make a great team. She's a wonderful mom to Sammy. I'm gonna need the next book about her best friend and also a series about his brothers.

I received an arc from valentine pr.

Micalea Smeltzer does it again with "Rule Breakers Fall Hardest," the gripping sixth heart-pounding story in The Boys series. This book takes the beloved trope of best friends turned enemies, adds a dash of fake marriage, and sets it all against the vibrant backdrop of college life and the adrenaline-pumping world of hockey.

Daire and Rosie's story is nothing short of captivating. Their journey from friendship to enemies and eventually to a complicated, faux marital bond is wrought with tension, passion, and unexpected twists. A curveball that Daire never saw coming leaves him in a predicament that only his once best friend Rosie can help him navigate, leading them into a fake marriage that neither anticipated.

This author masterfully portrays their complex relationship, making every interaction between them a rollercoaster of emotions that keeps you hooked from the very first page. Daire, with his rebellious spirit, perfectly embodies the rule breaker, but Rosie is no less of a firecracker. Her feisty nature and fierce independence make her a formidable match for Daire, ensuring that their dynamic is as explosive as it is entertaining. Their chemistry leaps off the page, and you'll find yourself rooting for them through every twist and turn.

The hockey setting and cameo from their friends adds an extra layer of excitement, seamlessly blending the sport's intensity with the drama of Daire and Rosie's relationship while weaving in great friendships. Ms Smeltzer's portrayal of the hockey world is vivid and authentic, making it an integral part of the story rather than just a backdrop.

In "Rule Breakers Fall Hardest," this author proves once again that she is a master of contemporary romance. The book is a perfect blend of humour, heartbreak, and heat, delivering a story that is as engaging as it is emotionally satisfying. If you're a fan of romance with a touch of sports and a lot of heart, this book is a must-read. Be prepared to fall hard for Daire and Rosie—they're rule-breakers in the best possible way.

Rule Breakers Fall Hardest by Micalea Smeltzer

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶🌶

I really enjoyed the pace of this story. Daire and Rosie were cute as hell when they finally stopped fighting it. Before that? Daire wasn't my favorite. However, I can safely say that he's won me over. ♥️
My heart cracked in half over how everyone treated Rosie. Not even halfway through this book, and even I was protective of her. The way Daire was so protective over her and her feelings even when he claimed to hate her spoke volumes. By the end, I loved the dynamic they fell into.
