Janie and Cabel continue their senior year under cover, investigating a lead that one of their teachers is a sexual predator. Janie finds herself stuck in the middle of the scandal, which Cabel upset that he can't protect her. McMann created another page-turner.

Mature themes.

I liked this one wayyy more then the 1st. I actually got into the whole plot cause it intrigued me and loved seeing Cabel and Janie's relationship develope. Also felt so bad for Janie throughout the whole book. She's got a rough life and its only gonna get worse ): hopefully she'll always have Cabel by her side. Interested to see what happens in the last book :P

I might have to reread Wake. I do believe I only gave that 2 stars. Which is weird considering how much I liked this book. I'm not even sure why I checked this out of the library. Curiosity? Whatever the reason, I'm glad I did.

In the sequel to the first book in the Dream Catcher series, Wake, Janie's working with the local police department to investigate some suspicious behavior going down at Fieldridge High. Cabel's not happy about Janie putting herself in the way of danger, but she's determined to figure out what's going on. In the midst of that drama, the new couple is trying to find a little secret time together. Janie's got a lot to deal with on top of that. She's finally learning the truth about her ability... and herself.

I love this series. I have been waiting to read Fade since I sped through the last few pages of Wake, and I was not disappointed. Everything that I attracted me to the first novel is still there, simplicity of McMann’s writing, quick pace and realistic dialogue.

Fade divulges more about Janie’s ability which was fascinating and unimaginable at the same time. The unique relationship between Janie and Cabel is also taken to a new level.

I usually don’t comment on the content within a novel, but I know there were a few comments on my review of Wake that said they had a problem with the language. So yes, there are cuss words in this book, and if that is going to bother you, keep in mind this novel is about catching a sexual predator.

One of my favorite fictional couples is back. Cabel (swoon) and Janie are still in school, still (secretly) together and still dealing with Janie’s unusual ability. This time, the Captain offers Janie a position with the undercover team. There’s a sexual predator on the loose in their school, and the Captain thinks Janie can use her special talent to help suss out the guilty party. Though Cabel protests (he wants to keep her out of harm’s way), Janie convinces him that this is something she has to do. She wants to use her power for good. He relents and they join forces to take down the bad guy. Only Janie ends up in some dangerous situations they weren’t prepared for.

Once again, Janie was a strong, confident woman stuck in an unenviable position. She was learning to control the basics of her dream jumping with Mrs. Stuben’s help and Caleb’s support. Though Janie was unhappy with her dream-jumping (and her mother’s continued mental absence), she never complained. She just kept on doing her thing while staying focused on her future college plans. Cabel is still one of my top literary crushes. He had his flaws, of course: he was overprotective (in Janie’s opinion, not mine) and he had a hard time letting her make her own decisions. But he truly cared about her and only wanted her to stay safe. Nothing wrong with that as far as I’m concerned. It turned out Mrs. Stuben had quite a few secrets she was hiding from Janie in Wake. I enjoyed learning about her past and how she handled the same ability that Janie was now dealing with. Some of the things Janie learned were sad and heartbreaking, and I really felt for her.

The plot was a bit farfetched (I really doubt a police force would leave so much of the actual police work up to a pair of teenagers), but I enjoyed it anyway. If you can suspend your belief and just go with it, you’ll like the ride much more. I liked that Cabel and Janie didn’t have an easy relationship, where everything worked out perfect right from the get-go. They both had their issues, and both had to learn to give as well as take. It was nice to see such a realistic relationship in a YA book.

There was cussing and drug and alcohol use. There were also sexual situations, including the topic of rape, though they were handled realistically and honestly. The plot moved along at a quick pace, as did the writing. No extraneous subplots or prose. Simple and to-the-point writing really worked with this story, with Janie’s frame of mind. Again, as with Wake, I think this type of writing worked better in the audio version than it would in print.

The sum up: Another intense story in the series, Fade sets the scene for the final book and I can’t wait to read how everything turns out. And also, more Cabel, please.

Janie is ready to really be with Cabel. She wants to be able to tell her only friend and she just wants to come out of hiding. Of course, that's not possible. Their cover would be completely blown and the last case isn't quite closed yet. Also, it looks like they might be needed for a new case at Fieldridge High.

Janie and Cabel don't exactly see eye to eye on Janie using her abilities to catch criminals. They both know it could put her in danger and Cabel can't seem to accept that. Things really start to heat up when Janie figures out who the criminal in their school is and instead of trying to get away she works to get closer and in the midst of all the turmoil finds out some shocking secrets about her ability.

Will Cabel be able to love Janie and let her do her own thing? Will Janie solve the mystery or will she become another one of the criminal's victims?

I loved both Wake and Fade. Janie and Cabel are two of my favorite characters. Their stories are just so unique and interesting and just keep getting better. I have to say that I would love to have Cabel for myself especially after reading Fade.

Lisa McMann's writing style is very different. It didn't bug me at all when I read Wake but it did bug me a little in Fade. I'm not really sure why, it just took me a little longer to get into the story but once I did I quickly forgot about my problems with it. Fade was so gripping and shocking and just all out great.

I don't really have anything bad to say about Fade other than my minor issue with the writing style. Once you get into the story the book is just impossible to put down. Both Wake and Fade are on my list of favorite books and I can't wait for the third book, Gone. It will be released next year and I am so excited about it. If you haven't already read Wake and Fade, what are you waiting for?

I loved this one just as much as the first one. Both for me are 4.5, they still will be one of my favorite books series ever.
Love the fact that there are consequences to being a dream catcher, it isn't just rainbows and sunshines.

I would say this is more a 3.75. I love the writing style and story, but what adult police captain allows teenagers to be undercover cops and put themselves in ridiculously dangerous situations? That plot point really got to me, just so unrealistic. I know it is 'paranormal', but I think these stories only work when the real-life elements are right.

Really excellent story-telling though, she is so good at the angsty/emotional stuff. Will definitely read the last one.
