I would say this is more a 3.75. I love the writing style and story, but what adult police captain allows teenagers to be undercover cops and put themselves in ridiculously dangerous situations? That plot point really got to me, just so unrealistic. I know it is 'paranormal', but I think these stories only work when the real-life elements are right.

Really excellent story-telling though, she is so good at the angsty/emotional stuff. Will definitely read the last one.

While I enjoyed this book more than the first in this trilogy, I still am not quite connecting to it as I had hoped. Maybe it's the third person present tense? Or the choppy writing style? But I do think the sentences were more fluid and structured in 'Fade' than in 'Wake'.

The beginning of the book seemed to focus more on the "misfits, united" aka Cabel and Janie's relationship instead of the dream catching or detective work. Not to mention, the utter lack of adult supervision not being addressed! They are in high school, and yet they seem to crash at each other's place all the time and seemingly have no personal life outside of each other.

With sexual predators on the lose at Fieldridge High, the undercover couple goes to work, adding mystery and backbone to the story. Rape is a serious crime people! And there is nothing better to add a dramatic tone to a book than real world issues.

I appreciated that Janie finally can pull herself out of other people's dreams, and the focus was not nudity dreams such as in the first book. And we FINALLY find out more background about dream catching, this would have been crucial to add into the first book! Really been waiting on this part!

All in all, I'm going the read 'Gone' not just out of obligation anymore but interest, hoping that will get used to the third person tense.

I'm so glad I kept going with this series. I just absolutely love this author and her writing style. The characters are quirky and funny but they are also flawed and real. The world is so all-consuming, I never want to put the book down

I can't believe the next one will be the last....I can't wait to read it!

The second book in the trilogy, Janie is learning how to hone her ability further. Now she is a full-time partner with her boyfriend Cabel as they work undercover at their high school. When Captain brings them in to tell them that she thinks that there is a sexual predator on campus, Janie is eager to help but Cabel is cautious of the danger that this case will bring to her. While this text is no less "cotton candy" than the first book in the series, I still found it enjoyable, mainly due to my like of the characters and due to the fact that there haven't been too many books with this issue that I've run across lately. Plot-wise, there weren't too many surprises, but it was interesting nonetheless. I'm intrigued to see what McMann does with the final installment.

When the police suspect a notorious and sexual predator disguised as a teacher in Fieldridge High, Janie is asked to confirm and smoke him out. It isn't enough that students are covering up for the criminal, but the assignment doesn't sit well with her boyfriend Cabel either. As both struggle to be professional and keep their rocky relationship on the low, both realize that they are in way over their heads.

If there was an award for most realistic and beautiful YA fictional couple, it should go to Janie and Cabel. I LOVE those two. I love how McMann portrayed their relationship; mature. Two people who are trying hard to open up with one another, and the slews of problems that come from it.

It took me a while to get used to the writing again, and like last time, it worked amazingly well in suspenseful scenes, and man were they suspenseful! McMann is excellent at portraying which part of the story readers should pay attention too, and the sexual predator plot was so intense. Just amazing.
But as much as I loved the concise writing, there were moments when I didn't understand what happened. It would have been nice to go deeper in some parts, but otherwise, I think it worked out well. An awesome addition to an amazing trilogy. Can't wait to read the next one.

2.5 stars. I liked this one better than the first book in the series. The plot was still outlandish enough that it made it difficult to suspend my disbelief, but it was a fast read and kept my attention the whole time. I will read the third in the series after reading some other stuff on my gigantic to-read list.

Great book. If the story were a bit longer and the sentences weren't so choppy, I'd give this book 5 stars!

I was excited to start Fade and once I did I was happy to see that it was just as good as the first one. I am happy to see Caleb and Janie still together and what they go through to solve the case they are one is very intersting. I would recomend this book to anyone who liked the first book.
