Great read, and told in the voice of the author speaking to her mother, which also, given the content, puts it in this framework as old as Adam and Eve, where clearly a man's choices and actions are deeply detrimental to people around him, but the focus is really why didn't this women stop him/did she tempt him to make these bad choices/what role did she play? CW for suicide attempts and execution, misogyny, gaslighting, racism

Absolutely amazing, must read. Especially for my fellow daughters of immigrant parents, or anyone who wants to understand better the truly harmful dangers of model minority myth.

One of my favorite reads in a while - history written alongside a deeply honest and moving memoir.

I was not expecting all the turns that this book held through the end. brought me to tears multiple times.

Read by author was cherry on top #audiobook

Not sure if it’s a memoir about struggling with the model minority myth as much as a story of an abusive family and Stockholm syndrome to keep going back to the abuse, mental health issues, and lacking boundaries. Pressures came from succumbing to societal pressures and expectations.
