This is a super fast paced fantasy read. It’s got a slow burn romance between enemies to friends to … well we’ll see. The book moves fast and you can breeze through reading. I found myself easily absorbed into the book. There were a few areas I wish had been slowed down to give more detail but at the same time it was nice to read a fantasy book that wasn’t bogged down with minuscule details. The FMC has a lovely arc of self discovery that seems to continue into book 2. She starts off naive and very protected but shows rather quickly she is not a doormat. The 3 MMCs are all swoon worthy. I wish I had gotten to know them all a little more. Eris is a great sidekick / bestie and I find her interesting. I’d love to see a lot more of her. The banter in the book is cute and sometimes funny. The magic and myths described are really cool and there are some new twists on old things that bring a fresh feel to this genre. This reads to me like an upper YA but I feel like its heading to that NA genre. This book definitely felt like an intro for me. The world building was lovely and not overly bogged down but it left a lot of room for expansion. I feel a little teased with how fast it moved (I read it in a few hours) and ended up on a cliffhanger. I am excited to read book 2 and see what happens next!

NOT QUITE RIGHT.

This started off well, but unfortunately went downhill for me in the end.
My biggest issue involved the writing style. The EASE of the writing was great, there was a fast quality to it and I felt like the pages were flying by. But there was a lot of modern dialogue/lingo + modern amenities that didn’t fit into the world that had been constructed. It took me out of the book over and over again. If this had been an urban fantasy (or at least those vibes) I think things would have made a lot more sense.
The romance is FAST. Shaye flips a switch so fast I got whiplash. From being “upset” with her kidnappers to “being one of them” in like 3 days. WHAT. There’s some good found family pieces slipped in, but I couldn’t wrap my head around the rest. This is NOTTTT enemies to lovers.
I don’t really have plans to pick up the second book. Not worth the time.
Overall audience notes:
- Fantasy Romance
- Language: some strong
- Romance: low innuendo; kisses
- Violence: high
- Trigger/Content Warnings: loss of life, murder, blood/gore depiction

I really enjoyed this book. The start was a little iffy to me but only because it seemed that Shaye got over being kidnapped and started feeling friendly toward her captors a little too quickly, however, once into the book a little further and I forgot all about that as I got swept away by the story.
I can’t begin to tell you how much I loved Atlas, Finn and Nyx. The three brothers are male perfection. Atlas is all growly and smirky and gorgeous, Nyx is flirty and fun, and Finn is so serious and quiet, I just loved them all.
Atlas and Shaye are perfection together and I loved Shaye’s relationship with Eris. I found the world building effortless and easy to understand and Morgan Gauthier’s writing was so engaging and flowed so well, I flew through the book and was then mad at myself for going too fast.
I absolutely cannot wait for book 2. If you love enemies to lovers, found family, great banter, sassy spunky female characters and male perfection in your fantasy books, run, don’t walk and grab this book!

Never trust a Tronovian, unless they're the only ones who can save your life... Where do I begin with this magical, wonderful, absolutely incredible book? A Song of Shadow and Starlight had me hooked from the first page! The story follows Ilaria Shaye Kitarni, the heir to the Midorian kingdom who has been told that she is never going to be permitted to rule as a female heir. Engaged to Bastian, one of Midori's protectors and her childhood best friend, Shaye is kidnapped the night before her wedding by three Tronovians and someone she thought she could trust.... The three Harland brothers of Tronovia (Finn, Nyx, and Atlas) as well as Eris the water magic wielder ferry Shaye across the Six Kingdoms with the end destination of Tronovia in mind. With plot twists, amazing character dynamics, and a cliffhanger of an ending, @authormorgangauthier definitely has me waiting in eager anticipation for the second book's release in April 2024!

Y’all, this book sucked me in so quickly I only put it down when my eyes literally couldn’t stay open anymore. Usually a new series will take me about 5 chapters to really get hooked but I was almost immediately obsessed with this series. I really appreciated the single POV and how we were discovering things about the world as Shaye did since she was kept pretty sheltered. The dynamics between Shaye, Eris, and the Harland Brothers Atlas, Nyx, and Finn are top notch and the balance between their abilities and personalities really helped move the story along. The story I would say is pretty medium-fast pace…a kidnapped princess and the ever-looming threat of death tends to speed things along…but not too quickly. This first installment of the series was a great introduction to the world and I can’t wait to see what happens in the sequel.
