Ilaria, the sole heir to the Midorian throne, was set to marry her childhood best friend when she was abducted by the three Tronovian brothers on the eve of her wedding. As she tries to make sense of her situation, Ilaria discovers that her entire life has been built on a foundation of lies and deceit. She struggles to determine who she can trust, especially as her sworn enemies warn of an impending war lurking in the shadows.

The story was a delightful and easy read, with a vividly imagined world and a unique magic system. Ilaria, a sheltered princess, has spent her entire life behind the walls of the castle, aware of the dangers that lurk outside but unaware that she is already living with danger. After discovering the truth about herself and her situation, she feels conflicted and struggles to make decisions that she believes are right.

The Three brothers, Atlas, Nyx, and Finn, are incredible characters. Atlas may come across as arrogant and cocky to others, but he is fiercely protective of those he cares about and loves. Nyx, the youngest brother, is easy-going and funny, often joking around and flirting with Ilaria. Finn, the middle brother, has a quiet and calm demeanor and is a skilled healer with exceptional intelligence. Together, they make an amazing trio!

The story was a perfect blend of secrets, action, adventure, lies, betrayals, and a slow-burn romance that kept the tension high. I was screaming at Atlas and Ilaria to kiss and make up, only to be interrupted by someone every time they got close. While the cliffhanger ending left me wanting more, I am excited to see what the second book has in store.

I really wanted to like this so much. I love her two romance books and I loooove fantasy. So I had high hopes. It was not bad. But I felt like it wasn’t edited very well and there was a lot of descriptions skipped. I found the main characters inner monologue very annoying and frustrating.

"..it's ok to be afraid. It's ok to have second thoughts. It's ok to question everything you've ever known. It means you are searching for truth, searching for what brings you joy, searching for the real you and the power within. You aren't a bad person, or a terrible daughter, for making your own decisions and choosing your own thoughts. If anyone tells you otherwise, it's because they want to control you and you've taken away their power."⠀

Morgan Gauthier, A Song of Shadow and Starlight⠀

✨ A Song of Shadow and Starlight by Morgan Gauthier is a fantastic fantasy that left me with a major book hangover and also wanting to watch The Princess Bride for some reason? It must be the kidnapping gone wrong, enemies to lovers, slow burn romance and found family aspects of the story! ⠀

Shaye is such an interesting character and I love how much she progresses throughout the book. Her growth and the change in her confidence is wonderful to see! Her interactions with the three brothers are so great but I adore her and Atlas together. They made me think of Rory and Jess from Gilmore Girls with their quips and pokes. Nyx is my favorite brother. I couldn't get enough of his goofy, flirtatious attitude and I would totally read a book that was just about him. I think Finn and Eris are soulmates and I definitely want to see where things go with them too! ⠀

I'm so glad I got to read this book and I can't wait for the next one in the series.

I would like to begin by thanking the author for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review of the book.

My rating is closer to about a 3.75 and I merely rounded up.

I honestly had so much fun with this. It was fast paced and had a lot of the tropes that us fantasy girlies absolutely adore.

Shaye is a sheltered, naive, and spoiled princess that has been stiffled for a good portion of her life by those that are supposed to love her. Due to her upbringing I understand why she is the way she is, but I will admit that I found her slightly frustrating. Nonetheless, I am excited to see how she grows in the near future.

MY LITERAL highlight of the book were the Harland brothers. They are all so unique in their own way and yet they work so well together as a collective. I love each brother with my whole chest. Nyx is that best friend figure who could dang well be your annoying brother. Finn was the timid one that is so sweet. Atlas is the grumpy brooding shadow daddy that you fall for all of the time. I can't wait to learn more about them and their history on the coming books.

The pacing for the book is a little fast and my only critique is that I wish it was slightly longer so that relationships could be developed to greater depths. I personally feel that the fact that this whole book takes course over a single week makes it slightly difficult to gauge the complexity of the relationship between the characters. It's almost as if the work was done behind the scenes and readers are simply told that things are progressing. However that being said, I did enjoy everything overall.

The world is unique and full of potential. I really liked how each Kingdom is different and offers something richer to the world building. I hope to see more expansion and interactions with the other kingdoms as we continue forward.

In conclusion, I had a good time and recommend this to someone looking for a fast paced fantasy romance book full of adventure and discovery of friendship.

Slow burn. Like the slowest of burns. A man who commands shadows. Flirty royals. I really enjoyed this one.

wish I could read this for this first time all over again. This book was so amazing! | read it basically in one sitting because I could just not get enough. The story, the world building, the characters all feel so easy to fall into and so easy to love. The whole atmosphere of this book is so cozy yet so adventurous, there was such a good balance of action and slower scenes where we got to know the characters and their relationships. And of course, we're not just gonna not mention that hot spring scene. This was such a fun and satisfying read, I truly felt like I was in the story with this one and I cannot wait for the next book in this series!

I really enjoyed Morgan's writing style. The way the characters were literally so vivid in detail, in spunk. I could literally see the characters as they were in each scene.

My favorite characters were obviously the Hartland brothers and Ilaria. They each had the most amazing characters, that I seriously felt like I was sitting there with them as they interacted.

I am so looking forward to reading book 2 ... I am excited to see where each character goes from here.

"𝕀 𝕨𝕚𝕝𝕝 𝕒𝕝𝕨𝕒𝕪𝕤 𝕗𝕚𝕟𝕕 𝕪𝕠𝕦, ℙ𝕣𝕚𝕟𝕔𝕖𝕤𝕤."

This was a super fun NA romantasy. Shaye is a princess and heir to the Midorian throne. When she unwittingly thwarts an assassination attempt the night before her wedding, she is kidnapped by the three Hartland brothers - magic users from Tronovia, the sworn enemy of her people. The ensuing adventure turns out to be more than any of them bargained for, and nothing is as it seems... especially Shaye.

The worldbuilding in this book was so cool. I feel like we hardly ever see trolls in fantasy unless they're evil monsters, but the troll country of Bava that the characters encounter on their journey is so colorful (literally and figuratively)!

I LOVED the three brothers and their interactions with Shaye, not to mention Eris and the friendship between the two girls. I really enjoyed watching Shaye's journey from a spoiled princess to a woman in control of her own power. Shaye is very sheltered and naive for most of this book, but it's understandable considering her upbringing. Even when she doesn't know how to use her power, she still does her best to fight back.

And of course, I loved Atlas and his witty banter (although my favorite brother is Nyx, personally. He's such a good friend to Shaye!)

Overall this was a super quick and fun read. I can't wait for April to see what happens in book 2!

I was given an ARC for an honest review.

I was pleasantly surprised how much I ended up loving and being sucked into this book. The beginning was a little rough for me, but once things got going, I didn’t want to stop! From Blood and Ash is my favorite series, and this book gave me some of those vibes ☺️

I enjoyed watching little sheltered, prepped to be the silent heir princess discover the world around her while being held “captive” and coming into her own person. She’s being held by three brothers (which if she would just have a why choose with all of them, there would be no complaints here! They’re all swoony) and a girl she thought was her lady’s maid.

I’m excited to see where this series goes! Thank you for sharing your writing with me, Morgan!
