I read this awhile ago so I read the description to remind me what it was about, not a good sign. I also can’t remember the ending. This book just wasn’t memorable.
Struggled with the multiple voices/chapter switches and the choppy flow of the story. Perhaps reading too much summer fluff and did not have the discipline to read this one.
I'm always so intrigued by books where all the characters are unlikeable (like Maine, by J. Courtney Sullivan.) I honestly couldn't tell you who of the 5 characters I liked the least! Taylor was unbearably snobby, and smothered Snow to the point of psychosis. Snow was a brat, and SO creepy. Michael was pompous and sociopathic, Lizzie was a doormat, and Finn was a child. All 5 were egomaniacs. However, I really enjoyed the book! There were SO many great lines, and the dialogue and unreliable narration were superb! Definitely would recommend this book for a quick afternoon read.
Siracusa was short but sweet. For fans of Daisy Jones and the Six, this audiobook read very similar in that you hear from four characters who are all retelling the story of their time in Siracusa, after the events of this vacation. I really enjoyed hearing from each character and hearing how they all felt about each other and how their perspectives worked together to tell the whole story. All of the characters are deeply flawed, which makes them interesting and intriguing - though Taylor is super annoying and hopefully so extreme that there aren’t real people out there like her. The ending twist is also pretty clever and was the cherry on the top of a novel that if it had gone on any longer (or had beat a dead horse), wouldn’t have been as impactful or smart.
Oh what a tangled web....Four narrators and each with blind spots. Took me a while to get into, but in retrospect a very clever intertwining of complicated relationships.
I wanted to like this book more than I did. The characters are all supremely unlikeable, and I think that was my issue with it. When two couples (one with a ten year old daughter) go on vacation together, and one of the husbands and one of the wives used to date, there's bound to be trouble. The descriptions of Italy were really beautiful and some of the prose is gorgeous, but this book kind of lost me. My favorite thing about it is the cover.
Had all the elements of a good story but fell flat for me
