It took me a month to get through about 60% of this book and I finally just gave up. I didn't like any of the characters and the story was way too dry and wordy.
Totally inhaled this, could have read it in one sitting. I had serious love for all four main characters; I think I liked them more than the author did sometimes. (At least with Taylor.) This is exactly the kind of thing I always want to read.
I really enjoyed this book. It was told from four different points of view. It was a quick and easy read, I felt like it was more about the characters as opposed to having an interesting plot but I enjoyed it a lot. I also studied in Ortigia were a lit of the book takes place so it was cool to hear some of the places I have visited discussed in the novel!
I have the tendency to finish reading what I start even though occasionally I regret it. I regretted the time I took to read this book. There was not one character - primary or supporting - that I could even vaguely like. There are other books I've read (Olive Kitteridge most recently) that show flawed human characters. You may not love them but you can find a redeeming value. That is not the case in this story.
Siracusa was very interesting in it's examination of two marriages told from several viewpoints. The whole time you have the feeling that something bad is going to happen. The author did a great job of holding the tension.
Great character study, not a lot of surprises but a great book for dissecting personalities in and outside of marriage. I really, really liked this book a lot.
Excellent writing and suspense in a story about wholly unlikable and unsympathetic people.
Maybe more like 4 or 4.5 stars, but the audiobook is read by four actors including John Slattery and Talia Balsam, and now I'm just mad at every other audiobook.
