[An adventurer disfigured by his long nose must spar with words to win the object of his heart.]

Grandiloquent, swashbuckling... it's hard to reconcile that this sentimental work is contemporary with modernist playwrights like, say, Henrik Ibsen. That's not to say the play is a complete artifact but forward-looking? No.

Though amusing, Cyrano de Bergerac holds little for today's audience beyond the context of its time.

I liked this a lot, I thought the translation was very good! I could really imagine it being performed live, the rhythm and the rhymes were great.
