Really short read about a family in Nova Scotia. Was a little slow and sad at some points but had some gems in the plots.

Had to stay in the bath and dream about the Northumberland shore, and Malagash; which if you didn’t know is a lovely little place on the north shore of Nova Scotia; and finish this entire novella in one night. A wonderful reflection on grief told from a precocious narrator. Soft, touchable prose. Local Halifax writer.

What an enjoyable way to portray the terrible sickness and subsequent loss of your father. The deep relationships that were formed during Sunday's father's last stages of cancer were so touching. I loved her mother's scenes.
I was disappointed that there was almost no reference to the peninsula of Malagash, NS. Generally Canadian fiction is famous for describing its landscapes and community culture but this was only vaguely mentioned in the final chapter.

That was absolutely beautiful.

In fewer than 200 pages, Malagash succeeded in making me cry, making me think hard about my values, and making me question life itself.

It's a sad read, but it's one I absolutely recommend to anyone looking for something quick and insightful.
