It's not as bad as I thought from the beginning, I'll give it that.

What a pleasant surprise! It was short and sweet.
I loved Lucas and Kayla.

The only flaw I find is the ending: everything is solved, all the problems and conflicts developed carefully throughout the book are solved too quickly as soon as
SpoilerLucas and Kayla (predictably) end up together.

This is a good one for "team Jacob" fans. It was a bit superficial for me, but it was a flimsy teen romance -- can't complain.

Paranormal romance isn’t my favorite genre to begin with but I like Rachel Hawthorne’s books so I decided to try her paranormal series. Overall this was okay until the instalove reared its ugly head, which is why I didn’t round up.

Kayla's parents were killed in a hunting accident when she was a child, and she was adopted and moved to the other end of the country. Now, about to turn seventeen, she has returned to the national park where her parents died to work as a sherpa, part of the park's guide service. The other guides accept her as one of them, except for Lucas, who holds himself apart from her. And once she's in the park, she feels someone or something following her, stalking her. Can Kayla find out what really happened to her parents and stop the nightmares that have plagued her? And why is she so drawn to Lucas?

Although the Dark Guardians series (of which this is book one) is a supernatural series, it is more like a traditional romance novel than most supernatural YA series. The supernatural elements are secondary to the relationship between Kayla and Lucas. The secondary characters are either villains or characters that will take their own turns as leads in future books. As a romance fan, I'm okay with this, and I enjoyed this change from other YA novels in this genre. I also liked that the relationship troubles don't linger on for multiple books. Although the story of the Dark Guardians will continue in later books, Kayla and Lucas have come to an understanding by the end of this book. Readers who care more about the romance than the supernatural elements will absolutely enjoy this book.

Ceritanya sederhana, menyenangkan, dan ringan ditambah pengalaman baru tentang Shifter atau werewolf.

Bukan tipe cerita yang buatku tergila-gila. Tapi aku berniat menyelesaikan keempatnya.

Interesting take on the werewolf theme! A little short but still a good read!
